is game of the YEAR
only games of that year, remaster/remake are not from that year originally.

Suppose a game has DLC released for it a year later. Should the game win GOTY in that year just because it's now got new content? A remake or remaster that only adds a bit of new content should fall into this category.

However, if a game receives DLC that is practically a whole new game, that DLC, and thus the game it's attached to, should entirely be considered for GOTY.

So I say that it should be the new content that is judged. Most remasters add little new content, and thus shouldn't be in the running. Remakes, on the other hand, sometimes make significant changes. I wouldn't consider Wind Waker HD to be worth considering. I'd consider Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver to be borderline at best. I'd consider Mario 64 DS to be in the running, but I wouldn't consider it good enough to win (not enough new content). I'd consider Goldeneye 007 Wii to be a serious contender (if the game itself is good enough) because despite being essentially a remake, it was extensively changed.

Remasters - Absolutely not. games like TLOUR aren't any different from their counterpart.

Remakes - depends on the extent of the remake. Something like Metroid Zero Mission is different enough that it could be considered its own game.

Should GOTY editions run for GOTY?

No.

maybe they could have a separate category for best remake or something. I'd be okay with that.

That seems like an idea I would gladly get along with!

Nah. It's just that GOTY editions come out a year later after the original, with all the DLCs. It's basically the same as TLoU Remastered.

If we did allow it would not be fare on the games in 2014 to have to go up against TLoU for a 2nd time.
