Remasters definitely no.
Remakes, no unless they are pretty much new games.

Totally hypothetical, but let's say 2014 comes and goes and nothing but 100% pure garbage was released, of course with the exception of a remaster of an exceptional title.

Do we just give the GoTY to one of the garbage titles? Does it, by default (due to "rules" made up by people on forums) go to Carnival Games? I say this because whether people here choose to aknowledge it or not, there are people who worked hard on these remasters to make them better than they were. Nintendo and/or Sony didn't just put their game into a "Remake Maker" and "POOF!" out popped the remastered titles.

Yes, Carnival Games for GOTY!!!

I think we should reward new products even if they are not great products, otherwise remasters are the only thing we will get, since they are already making money and they could be getting awards, they had their chances when they were released the first time, even if they were only nominated they had their chances.

Why not, if a game is so much better than the other contenders that even after some years it is still better than all the rest why not allow it??? A car can be the car of the year for multiple years with minute changes.

I can see a somewhat valid argument for remakes, but I still say no.

Remakes that are very different from the original games should run for GOTY awards! Remasters on the other hand? Hell fucking no!

No. GotY awards should always go to brand new games that can actually represent that year in gaming, not a game that represents a flashback to a past year in gaming

No, the original game had already been in the running to win GOTY so it's remaster/remake should not be considered.

No, GOTY should go for the new games that release in that year of competition. Also, remasters should be reviewed by the effort given to fully remaster that game and how the devs utilize new hardware. Unless the story is changed then nothing about the story should have an effect on that review. But back to the subject at hand, maybe for remakes, no for remasters.
