I don't agree with #1 but I can see why they picked it I guess. Just happy they put GTA5 above SA (hate SA and it was my least favorite of all 3d GTAs including the PSP ones). Oh boy...Heavy Rain above Mario Galaxy 2? The hate is going to be strong in this thread. I actually have a WiiU and have played all the 3d Marios and everything and I would put them right together but I know 3d Mario is for some reason put on a pedestal. Personally I think nostalgia effects metacritics for many Nintendo games and I'm glad this publication seems to be unbiased in that regard while still having appreciation for the classics that those games truly are.

How the hell did metal gear solid 2 make the list?

easily the weakest of the 4 MGS games imo.  MGS3 ftw!

It's interesting, I never really got on with Super Metroid, yet I loved the Prime games, Symphony of the Night and Metroid 2 and Fusion. (Never played the NES one)

But as I edited in my post, Nintendo will have suffered from a much lower presence in the 8 and 16 bit days in the UK compared with other parts of the world.

Your post just now made me aware that SOTN isn't on this list.  No Castlevania game is.  >:(

WTF!?

#1 is a complete joke. It should barely make the top 10. The fact that it has a ''deep'' story that is completly cliché and predictable and that this game takes itself for a movie does'nt make it the best game of all time despite ppl getting hipnotised by it's story to see this game as what it's not. Especyaly when the story is absolutly the only thing this game has.

Great stories are common, gameplay prefection is rare and only the games that achieve it should be in the top 10.TLoU only has a great story and it's its marketing, production and the fact that it's made from Naughty Dog that helped this game get overhyped above the rest creating a snowball effect (seriously, from the moment we've seen the first CGI trailer with the ND logo that game was already considered by many to be a futur best game of all time contender...)

I agree.  Easily the weakest of the series to me, made evident when Splinter Cell released and made MGS2 its bitch.  And Splinter Cell's not on the list either...

Godammit!

I don't really care about the order the games are ranked in because I'll never agree with it anyways, but it's not a bad list, tons of great games in there. But no Mario 3 stings a little.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.  I could bitch about the order all day and the startling omission of 8-bit Zelda, Mario 3, and Castlevania SOTN, but in the end there are a ton of great games recognized there.

Plus, at least there's no Angry Birds or Minecraft on the list, so it can't be all bad.

The fact Super Mario Bros 3 is not top 10 makes this list a joke.

I really need to play Last of Us. I am wondering what is it that this game achieved that no other game has done.

Nothing. It has a really good and deep story, but nothing unheard of (it's even quite predictable and cliché at times and it could have been more interesting if they allowed you a few choices but it's all unbelievably scripted). Gameplay wise it has absolutly nothing you've never seen before. It's just has the advantage of being a Sony first party game made by ND, the perfect formula for a overhyped game... Seriously, the simple fact that it was from ND allowed this game to be in the discussions of best game of all time from the moment it's first CGI trailer first aired.
