Anyone tried this game? Cost ranges from 10 dollars, to (I heard) 2.50 on Desura; very simple horror game. Not about gunning. Not even about running. You play a security guard who is stuck in a booth, with nothing for company but some dim lights, a pair of security doors on either side, a tablet that lets you monitor the security cameras, and animatronic animals kept in storage on the far side of the building that sorta come to life and try to stuff you in a costume full of sharp crossbars and wires that will cut your face to mincemeat.
Like Night at the Museum, only those things are NOT friendly. You do have an advantage, though. Ala Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, most of them can only move when you aren't looking at them; given how many different rooms are in the building, however, you can only keep track of one room at a time, and are left switching from camera to camera, trying to keep an eye on the creatures as long as possible, which gets more difficult when they split up (and they WILL split up.) The security doors on both sides have two buttons each; one that turns on the lights outside to show you if something is lurking, and the other to close the heavy steel door and keep them out. If one gets to the door, you can slam it shut, and monitor the cameras until it's left the corridor, at which point you can open the door again.
Which brings us to why you can't just seal yourself in there. Everything consumes a energy from a finite pool, and the more functions are running simultaneously, the faster power will drain. Watching the cameras? That's a drain. Have one of the security doors shut? That's a drain. Both doors? More of a drain. Use an exterior light to see if one of those bastards are about to get in? That's a drain. The name of the game becomes both watchful vigilence, and also power management; simply shutting both security doors won't help you, as you'll completely drain your reserves long before the night is through. If you run out of power, the security doors open, ALL the lights turn out, and you're basically helpless. (It should be noted, losing power isn't automatically a game over; if you're lucky, and close enough to the end of the night, you might make it to morning before one of em gets you.)
Note earlier I said MOST of them can't move if you're watching them. There's one, Freddy, in an area called Pirate's Cove that can move regardless of whether you're looking at him or not; the catch is that, as long as you're careful to regularly check on Pirate's Cove, he'll remain inactive. If you ignore that spot for too long, though, and he gets out... well, he's coming straight for you, and nothing but a shut door is going to stop him. x.x
There's plenty of Youtube videos, but I was having trouble finding a completely silent playthrough, which I think would make the gameplay stand out a bit more. Hard to really get into the game when someone's hollaring into a microphone. If anyone finds a playthrough without commentary, feel free to post it up here. =D
