Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square enix just Killed a potentially huge franchise.

Sony paid the former TR2 publisher for PS One exclusivity over the Sega Saturn.

And the franchise went on.

And I don´t think that Dead Rising, for exemple, is dead (sic).

Nor is Titanfall and even Ryse could survive Crytek financial problems.

You, guys are over reacting (expecialy if it turns out to be "timely exclusive")

This is pretty unexpected - SE have been real platform whores on console this past gen, even releasing FFXIII and then announcing FFXV and KH3 as multis even though the sales skew heavily in favour of Sony, so this seems out of character for them - when was the last time they made an exclusive console game?

Anyway, that cheque from MS had better have been pretty huge - even with roughly equal install bases TR2013 on PS3 outsold the 360 version and the PS4 release did much better than the XB1 version. I guess wanting to avoid competition with UC4 is feasible, but isn't like TR2013 have to deal with the fact that the platform had already seen 3 Uncharted games

I am completely sure now that Uncharted will sell double what Tomb Raider does. LOL MS just made it so easy even though they screwed a lot of gamers over.

It near enough does already with TR2013 on multiplat. With RotTR being exclusive, it'll be a bloodbath

I wonder how this thread looked like if Sony secured that deal..

VGchartz community would be all over it. This site community is so ridiculously Sony, its a wonder there is even a few Xbox fans still here.

You could glimps that if you look at the GTA V "pretended exclusive" after this year Sony E3 conference.

For a few minutes it apeared that it was a PS4 exclusive.

MS is going to have to supplement the lost sales of the game. Its just as easy as that. They are desperate which is why they are so willing.

I'm not an expert on this, but if Microsoft supplemented Crystal Dynamics with the money they could've gotten on PS4, would the X1 sales numbers be enough to justify the investment?

I mean, Crystal Dynamics would have profit, but would Microsoft turn a profit from the exclusivity deal?

Let me just put it this way....Square was complaining when the game sold six million copies. It hasn't even sold two million between the 360 and the Xbox One while the game has sold almost 2.7 million on the Playstation 3 and 4 combined. The high sales of this game was a group effort amongst five platforms. Putting it on one platform is going to demand a lot of cash out of MS.

Lets just say this...I hope they profit or else they could go under this gen for sure. This is too big a risk. Crytek almost went under making Ryse exclusive to MS and now they want to bring it to other platforms. This should've been their first decision in the first place.

I'm not a MS fan but this man/woman (no offence don't know your gender) is bang on the money.

I think you are being kind with double, specially if the userbases are like 30 million to 10 million when they both launch.

Did I mention TR used to sell the most in Europe, where the X1 doesn't exist? It will not be pretty.

That payload must have been huge.

Either way, I'm sure the game will be a timed exclusive, so people are overreacting here...

If this is similar to DR3 or Ryse I wouldn't mind, but still comes to show how much Square cares for their fans, considering the first game sold the most on Ps3/4. Hopefully they won't do something this stupid with Kh3 or Final Fantasy, cuz I'm not buying a game from them ever again and I'm thinking other people will do the same.

You are using VGchartz numbers...

It does not include digital. Keep that in mind.

Crytek dig their own grave with bad planing and management. Ryse started as a 360 Kinect game and went to at least 3 revisions. It´s a  OK game but shows cleary every mark of a rushed development.

Also, Crysis 3 sold only about half Crysis 2 did.

And every body seems to forget that Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall (and Sunset OD) all follow a similar bussiness model as Ryse.

Me too. Everything about Square Enix is pissing me off. This, XV being nowhere in sight for 8 years. Kingdom Hearts 3 probably going down the XV route. Rumors of a XIII Remaster Trilogy. *shudders*

I kinda think its always been like this... imo vgchartz is like :50% Sony, 20%Nintendo, 10% Microsoft 10% mix or troll lol
