Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square enix just Killed a potentially huge franchise.

To say the obvious, no they did not. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be as exclusive as Ryse and Dead Rising 3. Considering the fact that Microsoft has been considering the option of selling off the Xbox division, I doubt that it would be feasible for Microsoft's gaming division to pay enough to get true exclusive right. Maybe console exclusive if not just timed.

I remember when there were question over whether Alan Wake would make it to PC. The only true exclusive left are game that one of the big there pays for from beginning to end, such Bayonetta 2. I am quite confident that by December 2016, there will be a version of Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC if not also the PS4.

People are jumping ship back from the Xbox 360 to the PS4 where they were originally during the PS2 era. The PS4 has sold double that of the Xbox One. Microsoft pays Square for Tomb Raider with a fanbase that has even less of a chance of outselling the last gen Playstation crowd.

Square...your balls have finally dropped.

I wonder how this thread looked like if Sony secured that deal...

Sony built Tomb Raider, they dont need to buy it. Plus, they have three exclusive tps action/adventure games. MS is getting desperate so everyone gets screwed when MS pulls out the wallet. Well...lol not me..I have the One, but this still dirty as hell. Even Xbox owners who used the "just business" exclusive have to admit this. This was dirty and the game will sell nowhere near what it needs to profit unless MS is covering the majority of the losses from not being on a Sony Platform because for this franchise Sony is the sales leader, not Microsoft. They were the sales leader last gen and this gen for definitive edition. Square Enix is not in a position to be making decisions like this for exclusivity. Square was complaining about the sales of Tomb Raider and then they accept exclusivity immediately after? Hypocrisy.

This is pretty unexpected - SE have been real platform whores on console this past gen, even releasing FFXIII and then announcing FFXV and KH3 as multis even though the sales skew heavily in favour of Sony, so this seems out of character for them - when was the last time they made an exclusive console game?

Anyway, that cheque from MS had better have been pretty huge - even with roughly equal install bases TR2013 on PS3 outsold the 360 version and the PS4 release did much better than the XB1 version. I guess wanting to avoid competition with UC4 is feasible, but isn't like TR2013 have to deal with the fact that the platform had already seen 3 Uncharted games

Square isn't exactly the best when it comes to making smart business decisions. Even if Microsoft did cover development costs for this game the inevitable sequel is going to have a tough time selling on PS4.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Why? Just because it's not coming to PS4 does not mean that it will not sell, and I am sure that Square Enix already got a huge amount of money for the exclusivity!!! I will purchase it when it's out for my XBox One ;)

Its coming to PC for sure. Not like thats going to help with Squares standards of what it means to profit, but you know what can one do?

VGchartz community would be all over it. This site community is so ridiculously Sony, its a wonder there is even a few Xbox fans still here.

MS is going to have to supplement the lost sales of the game. Its just as easy as that. They are desperate which is why they are so willing.

I'm not an expert on this, but if Microsoft supplemented Crystal Dynamics with the money they could've gotten on PS4, would the X1 sales numbers be enough to justify the investment?

I mean, Crystal Dynamics would have profit, but would Microsoft turn a profit from the exclusivity deal?

I am completely sure now that Uncharted will sell double what Tomb Raider does. LOL MS just made it so easy even though they screwed a lot of gamers over.
