Nintendo has come under fire for many of their games not featuring online, such as Mario 3D World. And the ones that do, like Mario Kart 8, have no chat except with friends.
This second point is the giveaway. Nintendo has been pulling the wool over our eyes and executing one of the most elaborate deceptions in the history of the industry.
For years they've been bleeding money, which makes no sense as neither Wii U or 3DS are cutting edge technology. So where did the cash go? A reliable insider has informed me that Nintendo has poured hundreds of millions of dollars into creating AI systems that mimick human player behaviour.
When you go "online" in games like Mario Kart 8, you're actually racing offline against bots with randomly generated names and countries, designed to play like humans. This is why there is no option to chat with them.
After all, the majority of Nintendo gamers are casuals who don't know how to take their Wii U online, and nobody owns a Wii U anyway, so at most there would be like 5 or 6 people trying to find a game at a time. By introducing bots, Nintendo not only fills in the empty lobbies, but also hopes to save money in the long term by not needing to use servers for MK8 and other "online" games.
Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS will, of course, use this same system, which is why it will not feature chat with non-friends either. You guys have been playing against bots for months with realizing it. That "toadguy666" from Paraguay who beat your arse at Rainbow Road the other day? He doesn't exist, he's just a more advanced version of the bots in single player.
The "online multiplayer" in Mario Kart 8 is a lie, and Nintendo must be held accountable for their deciet.
