GC have sold bad, but have had much multiplatform.

The "kiddie console" stigma and lack of DVD really hurt that platform.

If NOA had been allowed to design the GameCube instead of the Japanese guys IMO it would have performed better.

GC console for kiddie?

Lol, ok...

The console was literally designed to look like a lunch box.

The NES and SNES/SFC at least looked kinda neutral. The GameCube looked like something straight out of Fisher Price's R&D, even though it was charming, it was a horrible miscalculation by Nintendo. Really undid a lot of the progress they made by having things like Metroid Prime and getting Resident Evil exclusive.

The problem too it would be one thing if the kid design actually sold to kids ... but it really didn't. Most kids overwhelmingly wanted a PS2 instead because by the time they get to age 11-12, they've already heard about GTA and want to play that.

Third parties do poorly on Nintendo consoles because they just shovel ports over, they don't use the technology, and they almost all aim for the very non-Nintendo CoD audience. Look at Assassin's creed for Wii U vs PS3. The Wii U version is complete garbage because they really put no effort into the Wii U version.

Never mind the fact that people are so obsessed with jerking off top "cinematic experiences" that they blow their load on high powered graphics, or the best the strongest console can do, and they neglect things like gameplay, which is one of the few level playing fields for the system.

Zombie u sales prove enough, Lego marvel super heros sold better on PS4 then wiiu wtf.

Black Flag well reviewed on wiiu a proper wiiu version of the game no delayed release bs and yet sales on wiiu prove to anyone unbieaed theirs no point in wasting time relasing on that platform.  It came out nearly a month before the PS4/X1 versions did on a already established userbase.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag PS4 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.76 0.77 0.05 0.16 1.73
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag XOne 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.55 0.24 0.00 0.05 0.84
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag PC 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.13 0.26 0.00 0.07 0.45
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag WiiU 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.12 0.06 0.00 0.02 0.19

Any one surprised wiiu is not getting Unity or Rogue ???? seriously with sales like that why the hell should ubi waste their time.

yeah the console was ugly, purple, called GAMECUBE.  I was ridiculed on two different occasions for mentioning that I owned one.  Not a good sign for your brand if you're trying to capture the 'core gamer' crowd.  Yes the system had the best specs at the time but the stigma was there and still is...  I have been a nintendo guy since game and watch, but I have watch Nintendo make lots of missteps.  Instead of capturing the entire market they go entirely for one segment and then throw away a bunch of money in the process.

BTW I am not buying any third party titles just to support the system.  been there done that it doesn't do any good.

I think if you take the GameCube ...

- Make it chrome in color with blue LEDs (like the Panasonic Q without the ugly stand nubs), no handle.

- Forget the "toy like buttons" for a more traditional SNES style button layout

- Allow it to play DVDs via a seperate remote (this off-loads the DVD royalties away from the console)

- Launch in late 2000 by moving Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Starcraft 64, Conker, and Sin & Punishment over

It could have sold a decent 40-50 million units.

Actually, It was meant to be a cube. The design was dictated with the name, obiously. The problem lied was that they saw the GBC do well with the color purple. But that thinking never works right. Purple is too of a weird coice. The handle aspect was thrown on at the last minute. I took my GC handle off. It actually doesn't need the handle in anway. The handle wraps around the screw posts. Except to grab the device with one hand. When handling systems, people usually grab it in one hand. You can't do that with the GC. Especally when you see it look small. You'll autoamtically try to grab it with one hand.Even with two hands, you're usually forced to just carry from the bottom. Unless you have large hands. Kids and average hands can't grab it right. That's my theory that went on with the GC.

Thinking the purple color was good was dumb. And them throwing the handle on at the last minute caused all the lunchbox kid jokes to ruin its image.

If the GameCube looked like this minus the stupid 1960s-ish leg nubs on the bottom and axed some of the buttons there ...

I think that would've worked much better even if they were married to the idea of a cube shaped console. It didn't have to look as toy like as it did.

Gamecube was released over 10 years ago when games were lower budget and ports were lower budget. Due to development costs we've already seen Wii U ports gimped by removing multiplayer, not getting DLC, delayed, etc.

Gamecube had good 3rd party support. But OG Xbox had epic 3rd party support in comparison.

Anyhow, I agree with the OP. The X1 is getting trounced by PS4, but the support it gets is due to X1 consumers buying 3rd party games.

If 3rd parties ever release anything of quality, I'd buy it on Wii U. I have Need for Speed, Blacklist, Arkham Origins, and Sonic Racing. Why would I want to buy Assassin's Creed when it runs at 30fps and drops constantly? And if I don't get the special content other consoles do? Instead, I drop maybe $30 to get it on PC and play close to 60fps with latest patches and somewhat decent support. Don't expect me to buy FIFA 13 when it's FIFA 12 re-skinned with some GamePad features. I already have that stuff on PC, and much better.

This pretty much happened last gen, Wii ended first and had like 0 third party suport. Its the same deal now Nintendo gamers buy Nintendo games.
