You seem a bit confused as to what an indie title is...

The person confused is you, the generally agreed upon view of what an indie games is, is not "game made by an independent studio"

This is the definition that Wikipedia uses for example:

"Independent video games (commonly referred to as indie games) are video games created by individuals or small teams generally without video game publisher financial support. Indie games often focus on innovation and rely on digital distribution. Indie gaming has seen a rise in the latter half of the 2000s decade, primarily due to new online distribution methods and development tools."

So no, a $60 retail game created by an independent studio backed by a huge publisher is not an indie game.

Uh huh. Just like how ProjectCars isn't an indie game because Namco is distributing their title. Just like how Minecraft wasn't an indie game when it was published by Microsoft - despite the fact that both Mojang and Microsoft called the game "indie" before the game exploded into what it is today.

The publisher has little to do with whether a game is indie or not.

Yeah I'm done here. Not going to engage in further discussions with Quinton regarding PS4 or related products in the future either.

Jesus you're riding yourself even further into this, it's starting to not even be funny anymore

Project Cars is distributed by Namco, but published by the Studio itself, the game is funded through community donations.

And Minecraft was made and funded by Mojang, Microsoft only published the freaking Xbox version, the game itself was very much created according to the definition of an indie game.

So your examples are really brilliant, dude. Just give it up, you're making up some serious bullshit here. When a games' development is fully funded by a publisher then there is nothing independent about it, how you refuse to accept that is mindboggling.

Lol. Why does it even matter if games are made independently or not. Quinton has no point

It doesn't matter. I'm all for indies. However, there's a few other people who do not believe that indies aren't Sony's main focus - despite the evidence. This whole argument basically started with people refusing to acknowledge that there are some Sony fans that are a bit upset with Sony's new direction with both the PS4 and the Vita in regards to indies.

Making smaller games is easier and quicker than making AAA games, therefore it is natural to believe that when you need to get titles onto a console, indie titles would be a simple thing to achieve... because there are more people making indie games than AAA.

To suggest that indie games is Sony's main focus, nah thats rubbish. There focus is getting games of all types and genres onto their console to help fill in the gap that is currently there because both 3rd party and Sony need to get upto speed on moving to a new gen.

Now.. after the conference could we also say that MS's main focus is on indies as well then because they had a big show reel of indie games coming exclusive to XBO.

Personally i dont think either console manufacturer's *main* focus is on that, just on trying to make sure people have stuff to play in the 1st year life of the console. After September, i hope this wont need to come up again, because the AAA games should start coming through at quite a pace, for a good while at least (we all know summers are usually crap).

Because your definition is wrong...

You know what? I'm talking to a wall right now. I bet you didn't ever check the link I provided. The link essentially says that the definition of indie is far too broad to be given to a single particular meaning. The term "indie" is essentially a marketing term. If a developer calls themselves indie, then who are we to say they are not? You can arguing this to the moon.

Your whole issue isn't about which games are indie or not. Your real issue are indie games in general. Why do you hate indies so much? Why do you need to feel the desire to defend Sony from all of these "horrible" indies, huh? Who cares if a game is labeled indie? So what? As long as the game is fun, you should be happy - yet you are not. Why is this? Why are you so adamant that Sony isn't focusing on indies when they clearly are? You're fighting a self-fulfilling war that benefits nobody but yourself. You hate indies so much that you feel the need to defend Sony from them. I kind feel sorry for you.

Wow. My first post on this site and what a journey this thread was. So much childish bickering haha

Quinton, I just wanted to give you my 2 cents on remakes (more specifically TLOU:R). I did not have a PS3 (had 360). I now have a PS4 and very happy with it. I always wanted to play TLOU but I knew I would never have the chance to play it because I wouldn't go out and buy a PS3 when I just got the PS4.

I think DerNebel was talking about people, like myself, that these remakes benefit. All Sony (and MS) is doing is giving new PS4 owners a chance to play tier 1 games that they never had the chance to play. Not only does this make new consumers happy, it puts more money in developers pocket for more games! Its a win-win, so there's no need to complain buddy.
