Slarvax for mod.

We're all way too soft and terrified of poster's sensibilities

If the OP is reported 5 times for "mirror threading," then it shall be locked.
Or maybe if there are half as many reports as posts.

You'd be amazed how often we get people reported for being stupid.

Its like 'WE WANT TO BAN THEM, but stupidity is NOT AGAINST THE RULES!'

I thought Axumblade (not ioi since I've never seen him modding) ruled this place with an Iron Fist...
I'm dissapoint.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Yeaa, I get the point of those threads and they shouldn't stop being made completely cause response/mirror/parody threads are pretty funny the first few times but the issue is that after the first few times, it just gets annoying... Like, I remember one time, there was this argument or something that FFXV can run on a wiiU and then someone made a "mirror" thread that it can run on a ps2 and had a picture of shadow of the colossus which was pretty funny but like 6 threads later, it ended on that FFXV can run on a calculator or some nonsense and it kinda ran dry by that point loll

Imo, after the first few times, if people want to still make a response thread, they should come out with something more original than another mirror thread

The tricky thing is how to deal with them.

I agree that a blanket ban (on almost any kind of thread) stiffles discussion and the opportunity for sometimes amusing retorts. That said, sometimes they just get tired, are a clear attempt at trolling, are duplicating a thread that shouldn't have been made in the first place, or a combination of all of these.

So, do we simply leave it to Mod-discretion to lock them as we see fit, leaving Mods more open to accusations of bias? Do we ban them altogether? Is there some middle-way you can suggest?

Happy to hear ideas!

Maybe have like a 3 thread rule lolll. Like, after someone makes the third parody thread, a mod comes in and says that this is the last parody thread that users can make of this topic and any after will be locked and the user will be given a warning followed by a ban if they continue to make those threads. Or something like that. I am not exactly fond of banning people lolll but giving them a warning should do the trick unless they get way out of hand

Something like that might work.

I am not a fan of banning people either. People who accuse mods of enjoying banning people or going on a power trip have clearly never seen this site's back-end. It is a PAIN in the ass to ban someone.

Pretty sure Zero said that FFXV can run on Wii U and then everyone went on a slaughter.

Mirror threads are getting really old now. It was funny the first and second time, but now we have way too many. Over the last two or three days especially.

They add literally nothing worthwhile, and are just poking fun at the opinions of others now. Am I the only one tired of them?

EDIT: I'm not saying they should be banned or anything, just pointing out that they bring almost nothing worthwhile for discussion.

There is a difference, however subtle it may be, between Mirror threads and Parody threads.

Parody threads are making fun of the original thread and typically are made to expose the underlying faults that plague the original but are overlooked.

Mirror threads are providing an opposite side of the argument utilizing the structure of the original for credibility and too show how the contrary argument can be made more or less.

For example:

The following thread is parody:

Should Sony offer a Power-Cord less SKU?

While this is a mirror thread:

PS4 Is Beasting In So Many Departments!

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Just start banning the users who keep posting those damn mirror threads! It will probably work!

We clearly don't agree, because I think banning users could work pretty well!
