Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 didn't make a come back, and so won't Xbox One unless a $100 price cut

Something that a lot of people choose not to address is the fact that PS3 also launched an entire year later which was a massive advantage for planting a healthy install base in NA, for the 360;

Now that the launches are finally aligned, we can see how these two competitors go head to head with nearly all things being equal. Can the X1 come back? I don't think so.

Can it, at the very least have a healthy install base here in America? Absolutely. There's just a lot of variables in the situation right now and we've all seen our favorite companies make decisions that left us scratching our head. So time will tell, but there's absolutely no way the X1 will outsell PS4 on a global scale.

I am guessing people missed my Edit: "A real come back from the PS3 for me would mean that the PS3 is the clear second or winner of the previous gen, not being almost tied with Xbox 360 at the launch of next gen. And a come back from Xbox One for me means MS reclaiming US and UK, cause there is not way they can outsell PS4"

Before the PS3 slim was release , PS3 was already outselling Xbox360 in Europe except UK. After the Slim they only outselling Xbox360 more in those area and keep loosing badly where they were already loosing. I would not call that a comeback. Specially not after selling 150 million the gen before.
And the main point of this thread is to show how limited Xbox One has a chance in US and UK. Wordwide they have no chance at all

price is not important games are...

Price and games are both important. The Xbox One being less powerfull, having multiplat perform worst and being the same price as the PS4 is not that attractive. But for people who are not concern about exclusives and only looking foward to Fifa, COD, Battlefied, they will pick the much less expensive console. A $300 Xbox One vs a $400 PS4 would be an intersting battle in US and UK

Not really, the pricecut did not really help much and WiiU had no pricecut but a game and saw a significant boost;.

Hehehehe.... so now the XB1 needs to be another $100 cheaper.

Anyways, this theory of yours would make sense (assuming you are talking about the XB1 outselling the PS4) when MS attained price parity with the PS4it at least sold as much or the same as the PS4. It didn't, it still sold less and its sales has dropped down to the same baseline it was at pre-price drop.

That should be a really clear indication that price is not the problem the XB1 has. And nothing stops sony from also dropping the price of their console too, if anything the only problem they would have is meeting demand; which is a really good problem to have.

You say that as if PS3 was in last place, it has been overtracking 360 the entire generation.

PS3 did make a comback and Europe and Japan really helped it. X1 can't make a comeback as big as that though.

Pretty much this! The X1 cannot rely on Europe and Japan sadly... :-/

You're underestimating the effect Kinect had for the 360.

The PS3 had already started to make a comeback before the slim released. It was the $399 original model that jump started sales. They were non existent before that. But yeah that does not apply to the xbone.

Besides that the Xbox One doesn't really need to win for it to be considered a comeback, as long as it improves and puts up a decent fight.

Exactly, I'm not sure why consoles are judged as having lost if they don't sell the most.

Xbox One could easily be a success at 50-60 million sold, and go down in history as one of the most underrated consoles, like the Gamecube.
