I see a lot of people saying that Xbox One can make a come back like the PS3. I went and look at the numbers but did the PS3 really made a come back?
Before PS3 slim was launched in the US, the Xbox360 only had a 7 millions lead over the PS3 in the US and word wide the lead was abou t 7 millions too.
Almost 5 years later Xbox 360 added another 10 millions to have 17 millions lead over the PS3 in the US. In Europe before the PS3 slim launch, the PS3 was already selling better than in the US, 9 millions in Europe and 8 millions in US. It was already selling more than the Xbox360 weekly. So MS had no chance of winning Europe. So can we really call that a come back or just a Brand that has more recognition in Europe and Japan than Xbox.
With the numbers above, the chance for Xbox One to make a come back is even slimer. One thing is in the US first impression and what my friends bought count a lot. When the slim launched, it was without a doubt a better value/price than the Xbox360, but the 7 millions lead + bad first impressiong pushed more friends and more people into buying the Xbox360 instead of the PS3.
How can the Xbox One make a come back? Buy making sure they are not being outsold in US and in UK. People needs to be realistics that tier2 countries will not change a loot. A one, two, three week max boost and the back to where they are. Xbox One need the price cut and it needs it now. A $300 Kinectless and a $400 with Kinect Xbox One will be a more sustained boost and will make the Xbox One competitive again in the US. They will have an even bigger boost during the holiday (price cut+ holiday boost). But if they starts 2015 with the same $400 Kinectless and $500 with Kinect Xbox One, I would say it's game over for MS.
Edit: A real come back from the PS3 for me would mean that the PS3 is the clear second or winner of the previous gen, not being almost tied with Xbox 360 at the launch of next gen. And a come back from Xbox One for me means MS reclaiming US and UK, cause there is not way they can outsell PS4 Worlwide
