It's worth it, because they NEED it to play online.

Not really, if they really wanted they could play online on PC without paying. So they are happy to pay it because they want it rather than need it.

Not everyone has a PC to game on (or likes to play on PC).  Are you really claiming that people WANT to pay for online gaming?

Kind of, even if they don't have a PC to game on now they could buy one instead of a console if they didn't want to pay for online. It is a choice and people choose to pay it.

Playing online is the want, paying the fee is the need.  You are mixing the two up.

People choose to play on consoles over PC's for a lot of reasons.  I guarantee you that wanting to pay for online is not one of those reasons (which is what you are suggesting).  People want to play on consoles and they want to play online.  They don't want to pay extra fees, they need to.  It's a requirement, not a privilege.

I would agree Wii U offers something different and it pairs well with the PS4. I guess if you have a hard on for Halo or Forza then maybe you could pair it with XBONE. IMO though it makes a great primary console for people with kids and a good #2 for people who are looking for quality exclusives.

For me:
PS4
WII U

XBONE

Well no one is forcing anyone to play online in the first place. If you're online gaming its because you want to play online. Nothing wrong with playing single player or local co-op.

Right, that was the original point.  People WANT to play online.  They NEED to pay for the access (on consoles).  The fee is a requirement, it's not something gamers desire.  Anyone arguing that gamers want to pay fees, simply because they are willing to pay them, is deluding themselves.

(SOME) People paid for PS+ before it was even required for online so yeah I'd say they want to pay the fees if it gives them all the things I mentioned in the post above.

Fixed.

You know I shouldn't have to pay JUST TO PLAY ONLINE. I already have to pay my internet bill I don't need another bill to pay just to play online a few times a week with my friends. Basic online play should be free, the other stuff I don't care about being put behind a pay wall. I think the only reason there is no Nintendo Premium right now is because they don't have much to offer for a subscription base.

Agreed, this is pretty much what I came in here to say.

I don't mind there being paid services around, but basic stuff you buy a console for should be possible without having to pay for it. This basically only includes the ability to play multiplayer games, access the online storefront, get system updates and maybe browse the internet. The rest can be subscription based, sure.

OP, you used to pay by the minute for Dreamcast internet. In Europe you had to use SEGA as the provider and it was something like 4p per minute for any time you were connected to DreamArena during the day, and I think 1p per minute off peak?

Phantasy Star Online led to several triple figure phone bills back in the day XD

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

If Nintendo charging people online gets them to create a more robust online, help speed up VC game releases, add more online features for others, and tie in an account for the games, I'd more than be willing to pay.

No. I think the online on the wii u (might be just because im in Australia) is terrible. Mario kart 8 drops in and out nonstop. At least 2 - 3 times per a sitting. "communications error' also still no cross chat or party chats, and the chat drops once you start playing the game. Annoying as poop. But its still my favorite console at the moment, go figure.

Systems Owned: PS1, PS2, PS3,PS4, Wii, WiiU, xbox, xbox 360, xbox one

Paying for stuff we don't need is like cheerleading for more taxes, expect more "taxes/fees" in future
