Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor: Sony readying new PS4 SKU with 1TB storage for this Fall

1TB Hard Drive? It's like when the PS3 kept going larger and larger, why???

To save stuff on it?

1TB is about 20 AAA games or 1 gazillion indies.

All games are required to be installed on the PS4 fully. Games like TLoU are 50GB, and then some games get patches and DLC on top of that filling it up rather quickly. You're simply gonna need it unless you're willing to delete shit 24/7.

This is what the storage should have been from the get go considering mandatory installations.

On PS4 it takes litterally 1 minute to install a game.  That is not a burden.

Don't they normally not increase price but rather replace the older HDD with the same price? Prices have gone down on manufacturing and they're selling gangbusters so I'm guessing they'll just phase out the 500gb and introduce this as the new standard this November or early next year.

Right, but they're so comfortable now I don't see why'd they effectively cut the price (or value add). Maybe they expect Microsoft to do the same?

Either way, I think it's a good move. With some games taking up 50GB, you want to minimise the required hard drive management for the user. I haven't had any issues with capacity so far, but I have thought about making the jump to 2TB. Maybe that will happen with a slim model down the road

I see, it's gone from not being able to save game data on the PS3, to forcing it on the PS4. Interesting.

Good. Hopefully it becomes the new $400 model and the 500gb gets a price-drop to $350. It would move tons more units.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Makes sense!

I think he's referring to the space it takes up, not the time it takes to install.

So lets say the next thing happens:
- 500GB PS4 price cut to $350/$350
- 1TB PS4 announced for $400/€400
Would that increase sales? Probably not much right?

This better not be a repeat of the 599 US dollars.
