Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ryse 2 Could Release On PS4;, Crytek Not Too Happy With Xbox One Sales

That's some strong and clear wording. It makes me wonder if the rumors from before were right and Crytek really did have some type of argument with Microsoft over the Ryse IP.

Regardless, I can't really dredge up a lot of sympathy. They thought the Xbox One was going to be the market leader, or close to it, and they hitched their cart to the wrong horse. They took a gamble and missed, there is no use complaining about that now.

Personally, the thought of Ryse on Playstation or PC does nothing for me. I might consider it at $5 on a Steam sale. Maybe.

I think it's time for Crytek to move on.

Two questions on my mind are "Can Crytek afford it?" and "What makes them think people want it?"

4 ≈ One

Sell the IP to MS so you can be in business a bit longer Crytek?

It's a garbage game. it's pretty, but it's garbage. And it was a launch game surrounded by next gen COD, Battlefield, Forza, and even Dead Rising was a better game. Don't blame Xbox One sales for your mediocre launch game.

Let's look at Knack global sales on the barn burning PS4. 1.2 million globally vs just under a million for Ryse. There you go, apples to apples. No matter how well a console sells, a mediocre launch game is only going to sell so many.

You'd think if Microsoft really felt it was a system seller then they'd fund it, but I don't think it did much but stall for Titanfall (I'm sure you can argue all that did was stall for Halo MCC, which is stalling for 5....)

As discussed on the announcement thread, there are a few of us who will buy it for the graphics. But Crytek needs to learn to make better games, or get some traction with the CryEngine beyond Star Citizen

After reading what he said about direction of Crytek in his interview, it doesn't seem to me like Ryse 2 is likely at all.  On the other hand, a Ryse FTP game wouldn't surprise me at all.

I remember it was a couple of years ago when you said Crytek would be a free-to-play only company. Why did you then have Ryse and Homefront in development if you were doing that?

Cevat Yerli: If you look back, we started with one title, Far Cry. Then we moved to Crysis. Then multiple platforms and then multiple studios. In order for the company to transition, we still had to take into account the retail market in the meantime. We couldn't just go 100 per cent full blown into free-to-play immediately.

So in a sense we used these titles to transition out of these markets. And the transitioning out is still not finished. We're still committed to retail this year and some of it will be next year. You'll hear of that soon. But the majority of our game launches this year are already games as a service, and will be more and more so in the coming years.

Also remember that Knack was bundled in Japan with the PS4 when it was launched there, so 300k+ sales just came from that.

i think if they find an oppertunity to do make another retail game and have it have the chance of bringing them money they will do it. in the position they are in now they will do what ever they can to stay alive. personally, its not like i really care.

i wonder though, if they really dont want to do retail games anymore, why not sell the Ryse IP to MS?

And I'm pretty sure there have been bundles elsewhere. Though in fairness to Knack, I think many like myself are waiting for it to turn up on PS+

Also, it certainly appears to be a terrible game

It sucked ass and he's expecting people to buy it
