No its not a stupid argument, its right. That is completely right. However, the PS4 is in first place right now. Not to mention, the XB1 would looe all the sales that the PS4 gained.

Its an estimate, at best thats a console per game sale which is of course unrealistic, but it sets an upper bound, the number of consoles sold because of a game cannot exceed the games sales, except on the offchance that the consumer buys the console but doesn't get the game. However, once this occurs he/she no longer has the game as a reason for the console.

I'll just say this.

Why does Sony bring its MMOs to Windows? Doesn't that hurt potential PS3 and PS4 sales?

In my opinion Sony and MS see Windows as neutral ground. Maybe they lose SOME unmesurable number sales by allowing games on PC, but they also get money or save money by allowing games on PC.

Other games can boost console sales more than keeping DR3 and Ryse on Xbox One. Also, they're just moving to Windows which is kind of neutral ground.

By the time Halo 5 comes, the X1 will already have received numerous other console movers.

Hence, keeping more games coming is more important than stopping DR3 or Ryse from going to Windows.

Issue with that is market perception, if people see and think most Xbox games will come to PC.  There is no must or great need for a X1 purchese is there.

There will nor never was GT GOW Ucharted TLOU on PC, none even ponder the possability.  You must buy a PS4 now or later if you want to play those games.

giving people a legitamete reason to doubt the need to buy is not good for X1 sales.

I don't really care if it is a "microsoft exclusive", but am glad they are allowing the developers to bring thier game to a larger audience than just XB.

Thats one of the reasons 3rd partys like working deals with MS is because they rarely force them to lock the game down to just Xbox.  Cappy ( an indy studio) stated that this is one of the reasons why they like working with MS so much.  Just the fact that MS are allowing them to bring thier games to Steam as well shows how felxible they are.

Now I'm not tring to take any shots at Sony, but why can't we see some of thier 3rd/2nd pary exclusive such as Beyond Two Souls, or Resistance 1, 2, & 3 come to PC??

Because Sony, like Microsoft has many different branches, PlayStation doesn't make MMOs, SOE which is not Playstation does.

Xbox Vs PlayStation doesn't mean Sony vs Microsoft, Vaio Brand Laptops run Windows obviously.

Well why doesn't SOE put games on Xbox? Maybe because Xbox isn't neutral ground like Windows.

Sony pushes (pushed?) Windows. Further proof Windows is neutral ground.

Because Sony is making SOE push PS4s by putting their games on the system, like PlanetSide 2, SOE hasn't put games on any console until the end of last gen, if MS asked and Sony let them, you might see it, but SOE games focuses on Online games hence the O like Everquest or PS

SOE did put games on consoles. Some on PS2, PSP and PS3.

Why doesn't Sony tell SOE to stop putting games on Windows to help move more PS3 and PS4 consoles? Because that would be leaving money on the table. There is no guarantee a significant number of people will buy a console to play those games.

MS likely saves money by allowing developers to put their games on PC. Doing that also helps them get exclusive deals.

Ultimately, Windows is neutral ground to Sony and MS. Which is why both allow console exclusives on it.

Alright

Why doesn't Sony tell SOE to stop putting games on Windows to help move more PS3 and PS4 consoles? Because that would be leaving money on the table. There is no guarantee a significant number of people will buy a console to play those games.

Because SOE doesn't care about selling PS4s, they care about selling their games, Sony cares about selling PlayStation 4s and to that end they do not want to sell XB1s so they are going to override SOE's desire to sell more copies, and keep SOE from publishing on Xbox platforms

MS likely saves money by allowing developers to put their games on PC. Doing that also helps them get exclusive deals.

That's silly speculation. Why would MS be concerned with saving money on exclusives, especially in losing in their best region.

Ultimately, Windows is neutral ground to Sony and MS. Which is why both allow console exclusives on it.

If its on PC, its not exclusive period. Its multiplat. PC sales mean no console sales. Hell even if its on multiple consoles its not exclusive. Its Multiplat.

Perhaps I should make a thread defining what an exclusive is because list wars seem to have confused a lot of people.

Once a game is on another platform, its no longer serves the purpose of an exclusive.

While I wouldn't say that any individual game porting to PC is a sign of Doom and Gloom, not even a handful, if this turns into a pattern moving forward, it will have an effect on the sales potential, especially down the road. To put it another way, thus far, the only really 'big and exciting' title currently released that HASN'T gone to PC seems to be Forza. (Feel free to make your own judgements on the exciting potential of Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon and Zoo Tycoon, and if they are more exciting on a marketing level than Forza.) Looking forward, the only ones that are on the 'Almost Certainly Won't Be Ported' list are, well, the Halo games, the Forza games, the next Gears game, and maaaybe Crackdown. Scalebound is pretty firmly on neutral ground, as is Fable since technically it is a core franchise, but Fable 3 DID go to PC.

Insomniac owns the Sunset Overdrive IP, and Quantum Break devs Remedy's LAST Xbox exclusive game went to PC after Remedy specifically bugged, poked and prodded Microsoft to allow it because of how important the PC platform was to them as a developer. So at this point I'd be more surprised if Sunset and Quantum DIDN'T both move to PC sooner or later, given Ryse and Dead Rising 3 both did. And if they do, (keeping in mind these are two VERY promising, brand new IPs,) then it just reinforces the image that the Xbox One's going to focus their true exclusives on the 'Old Favorites' and not be so interested in keeping new, fresh IPs exclusive to their console

People sometimes talk about how, as time went on, the PS3 caught up to the Xbox 360 in terms of global sales, and say that as a result, we cannot assume the same won't happen in allowing the Xbox One to similarly close the gap. The thing is, the further into the generation we go, and the more aggressively Microsoft ports its exclusives one after the other, the more likely it becomes that the gap in sales between the two will slant ever more in Sony's favor because many Xbox One exclusives will be on the PC platform... and the PC version will be way better. PC gamers who finally, grudgingly decide to pick up an exclusives-only machine two or three years down the road are vastly more likely to pick up a PS4, because not only will plenty of Xbox One 'exclusives' already be available on their main platform of choice, but the mindset would become 'If I wait even longer, maybe MORE of their exclusives will end up on the Glorious Master Race platform and I can play it in proper, eye-blistering resolution at 60fps yadayada.'

The thing is, I CAN think of a very specific way focusing on PC ports will benefit Microsoft, even if it screws over Xbox. Such a method, however, is going to require... well, Microsoft to be particularly dickish, and it would pretty much signal that they're not really trying to compete 110% on the console market anymore. =P It hasn't happened yet, (well, it's happened once, but at this point it's too early to decide if it's a pattern or just a coincidence,) but we'll have to see moving forward.
