Forums - Gaming Discussion - Resident Evil HD Remake Is Going Flop Heres Why

Ive been reading alot of things lately like OMG WiiU>XB1 WW weekly, Destiny is the next big thing and PS4 is God but what i havent been seeing is anything concerning about the recent announcement that capcom is releasing a remake of a remake early next year being resident evil R from the GC which was a remake of 1996s sony exclusive resident evil.  Here in lies the first problem this game is based on the GC version that is 10yrs old and the original game mechanics and design are 15yrs old.

Im not gonna lie im a fan of the RE franchise and its movies but i dont about you go back and play RE:R on your Wiis and GCs it hasnt aged well, the game has numerous designs flaws frustrating tank like controls, limited saves, low ammo, and disorienting fixed camera angles some of these flaws were to keep the player in constant feel of panic since there were very limited if doing it in other way due to console power.  Since then these things have been refined out of the game dev process there have been many horror games that where able to capture the fear while making the gamplay fun like Dead Space, RE4, Alan Wake, Condemned, TLOU and most recently Outlast

As of now idk what capcom is trying to do here? most of the gaming world was anticipating RE7 news this yr and we get a GC HD port? After RE5 and 6 it was evedent that changes needed to be made this was a perfect opportunity to reboot the franchise start over RE1 remade in 3D environment with new gameplay, story and even characters.  From the recent announcement it appears that REHDR is a visaul update with a few unknown tweaks of the GC version, and that aint gonna fly the general audience of 2015 isnt going to get REHDR and i dont blame them.

They said they will modernize the controls, and probably provide an abundance of checkpoints.
But the game will flop anyway.

Meh. It's mainly for series fans, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of them never got to play this game.

Are the controls really that dated, or is my judgement clouded due to the fact that I grew up on these games? The controls are a little quirky, but it's not exactly unplayable.

Should have been a complete overhaul.

I still play my GC copy a lot. Granted those things are annoying. My only real complaint is the camera switching when you get stuck in a fight, right at the switching points. Why does pulling out your gun count as a step anyway? but that's what a lot of people did like about the series. If people didn't. Why do a lot of people complain about RE 5 and 6 all the time? I do agree this remaster is a waste.

The problem lies with the backgrounds. It can't be remastered like a normal full 3D game. Everything (except the models) is being upscaled, and cropped. This will make it look poor. Even in 4:3 mode. If the Wii U could run GC games (without hacks). It would be basicaly the same in upscaling the game. Minus the improved models. This is just dumb as the Wii reissue copy that was done before. And capcom knows it. It's a digital only download for a reason. So they can make extra cash to fix the losses. They'll probably remaster RE4 next.

reason from me is that re5 and 6 dont have nothing thats relatable the enviroments used werent scary, RE 1-3 had that raw gritty modern city enviroment.  Along with the forced co-op and lack of traditional zombies.  Besides little bits of leons re6 campaing we havent seen a good RE in 3D since RE4, sony should capitalize on this and release dead nation 2 in 3D as TPS or even FPS, DN is also a game that captured thorse raw gritty enviroments well

And they did a horrible job with upscaling the backgrounds. A Gaffer used different upscaling methods for the GC version and it looked way better...

Look at the tiles: http://www.play3-live.com/screens/resident-evil/announcementscreen002-1407232564.jpg It's hard to do is worse.
