Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do You Think Mario Kart 8 is Doing its Job?

A certain user here said that Mario Kart 8 won't do jack shit and also Nintendo fans would shut up when the Wii U falls back to 30k baseline. I won't name the user (in fear of getting banned), in short Mario Kart 8 has done wonders and Nintendo fans have gotten louder.

So yes, Mario Kart 8 has done its job!

There may have been a rare exception but generally everyone, even detractors expected MK8 to boost Wii u sales more so than any release to date other than launch-  the question was not ""IF"  MK8 would boost sales but "how much"-   I thought it would sell more Wii u s the 1st week 2 or 3 weeks than it did but it has raised the base line longer than I thought it would because it has not had any more help since release re game releases-

So MK8 has done well but it is not the magic bullet many people thought-  Nintendo has to so something to keep momentum going-  so far they have not done that - Everytime they get a bump from game(s) released, a drought follows -  they keep saying they are going to keep the software coming at someon point in The future but that time frame keeps getting pushed back -

Wii u sales are still very poor-  just a little less so after MK8-    The Wii U still has along way to go just to catch the game cube

In North America and Europe it's doing OK, Japan the hardware bump has been less impressive.

The baseline for the Wii U will probably settle into the 55k a week range as August goes on.

Yes! Doubling baseline and its being competitive with the x1 is quite awesome

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Effectively doubling the baseline is pretty darn good...while the launch HW sales were a little weak in some territories, it more than made up for that with its baseline shift

I wish it did more because Mario Kart is one of the biggest games for Nintendo but thats only because Wii U was selling so poorly in the first place.
I think MK8 and Smash Bros will have a bigger impact this holiday though!

You could always quote-bump the thread they posted in

I expected more of an initial bump, but I didn't expect such a long lasting effect. By my very unofficial calculations its sold about 400K over baseline, it's changed the media tone about the Wii U, and it will surely play a role in holiday sales.

So, yeah, it did it's job. Now it's up to the rest of the lineup to pull its weight.

Considering where the Wii U was before Mario Kart 8, its definitely helping the Wii U out quite a bit.

As other people have pointed out it has not just increased the wii u's baseline to 60k but it has also made a ton of money for Nintendo.
