Forums - Gaming Discussion - What would you do if Sony....

That would be awful.

Seriously, what would the PS4 have been like if the 360 hadn't put the fear in Sony? Where would gaming be right now if the Xbox One hadn't had any direct competition at launch? Both companies have continuously forced the other to up their game.

I know I would still be gaming on PC but I would probably pick up an Xbox One eventually. I guess a lot depends on who buys the best Sony IP and/or studios, or if most of those studios broke up and reformed as third-party developers. Naughty Dog and Santa Monica on PC would be pretty damn compelling.

as funny as this may sound, i believe that on the hardware side we would have a much much much more powerful console if MS never made the 360. the network side of things will still be in the stone ages like the wii... but we would have much better hardware.

To OP, buy nintendo. like i used to before i jumped into sony's boat.

Around the Network

I would be sad.

PC and Nintendo for life then though I would be a sad panda

Get Your Portable ID!Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

I guess I would stick with PC gaming full time.

You did not need to mention them dropping PSVita support.

Well, I wouldn't move onto PC because that's too hardcore for my tastes (too much investment, hardware becomes pissing contest, lures you indoors far more etc) and I'm never going back to MS after the RRoD fiasco;

I do appreciate Nintendo but there aren't that many titles that would appeal (Mario Kart, Smash, Zelda and that's about it).

So, start working my way backward with grabbing the gaming essentials from an older era, or wait until the next console maker arrives that I respect enough to invest money in.

It'd definitely be a sad, sad day though.

Wonder how I'm going to get my JRPG fix.

Now that I think of it, would Microsoft suddenly stand a chance in the Japanese market without Sony around?  The PS3 got/is still getting a bloody TON of exclusive-by-default Japanese games.  Would these studios migrate to the Wii U or to the Xbox One instead of the PS4?

If the Xbox One got the next Persona, Disgaea, Tales, Warriors, and the like, it would make it a bunch more attractive for some of us.

If anything, it'll be Nintendo who'll get most Japanese 3rd party support, not Microsoft. Why? Catering to Japanese gamers.

Also, the Xbox division is more in trouble than the Playstation division is, as Microsoft's investors want Microsoft to pull out of the gaming industry.

To answer the question, probably go to PC. xD I'm fine owning both a PS4 and Xbox One while they're actively competing, but with no PS4 to compete against the X1, Microsoft would probably go back to what they did during the last chunk of the 360's lifespan and end up with a trickle of their highest-selling, but unvaried exclusives being made. I LIKE 'Dear God We Need To Catch Up, Quick, Quick, RELEASE LOTS OF GAMES' Microsoft. I don't need 'Well, We Won. Time To Start Hitting The 'Sell Halo/Gears/Forza/Fable Button.'

Zanten, Doer Of The Things

Unless He Forgets In Which Case Zanten, Forgetter Of The Things

Or He Procrascinates, In Which Case Zanten, Doer Of The Things Later

Or It Involves Moving Furniture, in Which Case Zanten, F*** You.

That would be extremely awful, the industry NEEDS Sony, without them the Xbox has basically third party exclusives for Console only gamers..

I would personally just stick to Xbox since I like the brand, although losing Sony would totally suck. Most Japanese games would probably move to Nintendo... which would also suck.

I'm guessing most Sony fans that game exclusively on Sony consoles would go to PC, maybe even the Wii U. Gaming on Xbox is like a sin to some fans :P

Even worse, they'll start bringing back their policies of "no used games" & require people to check online every 24 hours (always-online DRM).
