Will Wii U hit 10 million by the end of 2014?

Well, WiiU certainly isn't doing 60k+ a week like VGC has been showing, NPD is out.

You've got to give them credit for it, though. Two months without a new release and still going strong at a ~20k/week baseline in America. That means VGChartz has overtracked Wii U by ~30k in July.

I see the baseline falling further in August, to ~15k+, but see it reaching back to these levels in September.

Oh, and here's a curious snippet of info: According to Media Create, sales of Wii U jumped to 13.5k in a pre-Hyrule WarriorsZelda Musou week. Not really a lot, but every bit counts if you're Nintendo.

It's all low numbers we're talking here, and MK hasn't done anything near what it should have/was suppose to do. But yeah, for a system with only 1 notable game releasing in the Q (July -September, Hyrule being late September) it's quite good I guess.

Still, looks like they will ship same as Q2 or less. Certainly not 60k a week which amounts to 780k sold .. (and we're already overtracked as it is.)

Nothing in the games industry is a "safe bet" anymore. However, with some (far better) strong advertising, MK8, Bayonetta, (possibly) Devil's Third, and if they can manage to get Smash Wii U (aka the real game) out before Black Friday, then yes, I think there is always a CHANCE that Wii U could reach if not 10 mil, then at least close. I think, at the very least, it will stay within 2 mil. of PS4, and that's something.

What? lol so PS4 will start selling 60k per from now?

I really think Nintendo has bet way too much on the impending Smash effect, though, so I think we'll see the brunt of the sales post-October, when the hype train intensifies. Thats if the 3DS version of Smash is good.

Yeah, slight boosts for every game they release bar Hyrule WarriorsZelda Musou, which should allow the Wii U to stand proudly in Japan for a couple weeks.

Almost Certainly.

Already WiiU is selling 50% better YoY, which should put year end sales at around 4.5 million. This brings up lifetime sales to about 9.7 million. However before Mario Kart 8, WiiU was actually only on par with itself last year. So this 50% growth is more like a 100% growth over the last 2 months. So WiiU is more likely to end up between 5.5 - 7.5 million sales for 2014.

This puts lifetime sales between 10.7-12.7 million by December 31st, it really depends on how smart Nintendo bundles the WiiU (A Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, or Wii Sports Club bundle would do wonders).

I just laughed out loud at this. Either you sell 180k+ a week every week even before Smash drops, or this.

Yeah, wishful thinking at this point.

No, it will be close though.

Why not? WiiU is selling about 110% up Year on Year lately, and WiiU still sold 3 million units after this point last year.

For WiiU not to break 10 million, it would have to sell on par or worse then in 2013, any better and it breaks 10 million.

I'll be honest with you, I don't see any Wii U bundles in regions other than Japan, unless they get their collective heads out of the sand.

Besides, if they bundle Smash, it most likely wouldn't be a good deal if they don't offer a free game with it.
