Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hyrule Warriors: Why Does Nintendo Hate Online Play?

It would be nice to have online co-op -- more features are always better -- but this doesn't influence my decision to buy at all. I prefer local co-op anyway.

Plus it's not like Nintendo doesn't support online multiplayer. Mario Kart, Smash Bros., heck, Splatoon is advertised as an online multiplayer shooter.

The main reason I was going to potentially purchase the game was to play with my brother, who lives about 900 miles away.  Impossible to local co-op that one.

I know that Nintendo has gotten better about having online multiplayer facets in their games.  However, in this day and age, it is infuriating to see that they aren't making it a standard the way the other big 2 game companies are.  I get that they believe the best multiplayer experience is in the same living room, but reality is that the option isn't always there for that.

That's fair. My best friend lives in Florida so online play is the only way we can play, so I understand your frustration.

In general, though, I'm a fan of Nintendo's multiplayer philosophy. Local multiplayer, outside of the Nintendo ecosystem, has been slowly dying for two generations. I'm glad the company is keeping it alive, even if it means a dearth of online functionality.

This sucks for those who really wanted online co-op, but it doesn't really bother me!

They probably want you to do online co-op in Bayonetta 2 instead!

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

If you guys stop buying their games maybe they will change their stance on things..........

I used to think it was because they were Japanese, but then Sony would have to be the same. Then again would could argue Sony is focused on the west which is why they are different from Nintendo. But Sony is not the only Japanese company that has no problem with online, not even one of a small group. A lot of Japanese developers offer online just like the western ones do. So what could be it?

The only logical explanation is the ones running Nintendo don't fully grasp the concept, which brings us back to that idiot Iwata who doesn't want to let go no matter how bad the company performs under his command.

My 2 cents!

I think it is just that they are stubbornly holding on to the idea that because they are Nintendo and have such a rich history in the industry that they don't have to follow the trends that are created by other companies/the desires of a large group of gamers.  Unfortunately, if this is indeed the case and they hold onto this thought process for too long, they risk becoming completely irrelevant.

A bit off topic, but Splinter Cell Blacklist featured online co-op but had local co-op missing, thus people complained. So whats it gonna be ??local or online co-op lol

Why not have both options?  Mario Kart does (online and/or local multi, I am aware MK doesn't have a "co-op" mode).

This is Wii U we are talking about, us Wii U fans are never allowed the full package :) (im still buying Hyrule warriors though, as i prefer local co-op, especially each player having their own screen)
