Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hyrule Warriors: Why Does Nintendo Hate Online Play?

So apparently co-op on Hyrule Warriors will be limited to local only.  So much for my purchase.

Co-op restricted to local play only

Nintendo confirmed a while back that Hyrule Warriors will feature online functionality, and while the official page only lists elements such as potential DLC, Miiverse connectivity and "special battle" modes, many fans jumped to conclusions and assumed that online co-op would make the cut.

It has now been officially confirmed that co-op play will only be available when playing locally on the same Wii U system.

Were you holding out hope that online play would make it into Hyrule Warriors? Will the news that only local co-op is supported impact your purchasing decision in any way? Let us know with a comment.

no idea why they flat out refuse to make their multiplayer games online. maybe to save money on servers?

IMO they don t want to spend the money it takes or the extra time it takes

That's why we don't pay for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Servers. nintendo provides them, while japanes have to pay

Edit Fuuuu 2!  :)

It would be nice to have online co-op -- more features are always better -- but this doesn't influence my decision to buy at all. I prefer local co-op anyway.

Plus it's not like Nintendo doesn't support online multiplayer. Mario Kart, Smash Bros., heck, Splatoon is advertised as an online multiplayer shooter.

The main reason I was going to potentially purchase the game was to play with my brother, who lives about 900 miles away.  Impossible to local co-op that one.

I know that Nintendo has gotten better about having online multiplayer facets in their games.  However, in this day and age, it is infuriating to see that they aren't making it a standard the way the other big 2 game companies are.  I get that they believe the best multiplayer experience is in the same living room, but reality is that the option isn't always there for that.

No online for games bothers me more than anything else Nintendo is doing. I like local co op, but no online co op is just a fail in my eyes. I was expecting online co op. I may rethink my purchase.

Nintendo isn't making the game...
It's all on Tecmo...
