Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony has already managed to cut the costs of PS4 hardware production

still,.. i hope they cut the price sooner than later. do that whole "deal" thing this holiday like MS typically does and then drop the price officially in spring. i want ps4 to keep it's momentum up and not let xbox claw it's way back to relevance.

Why?

Lower the price of PS4, substantially increase the userbase therefore getting significantly more game and accessory sales. It will result in better financials no doubt.

I agree with this.  THe difference is that both M$ and Nintendo could cut price too.  If they all drop price, it equals the faster adoption rate, but not always a bigger user base in the end.

The problem with XB1 cost cutting is...

- It's a larger device and shipping costs are inherently higher.

- It has a separate adaptor, which makes it even harder to cut costs.

- The original device, even without the Kinect, costs (slightly) more than PS4.

- The cost cutting will be less due to the huge esram onboard, which limits the manuveur.

- Kinect was a major source of profit (because it cost less than $100), which practically subsized the machine.

Overall, XB1 has MORE ROOM to cut costs, but given the initial design, it will ALWAYS COST MORE than PS4, which is just a more efficient and lower cost design with better performance.

Not surprising. Sony succeded in cutting the cost of the PS3 in record time as well, one of the perks of being a hardware manufacturer first.

This was more an achievement of IBM than from Sony. Like the whole development of CELL.

what!? lol.

who builds PS4's and who makes the innards of the PS4?

You act as if that's all there is to it. Why did their competitors take a longer time to get the hardware costs down if what you're claiming was true..

Yes, the PS3 was nothing more than the Cell. You know your stuff.

because i game on ps4 and i want xbox to not be able to afford 3rd party exclusives, exclusive dlc, and time exclusivity that make my gaming experience worse.

not that sony buying up exclusivity for stuff is morally any better but it doesn't ruin my experience.

This is a very honest answer. Congrats!

Because others didn't build their system on expensive tech like CELL and bluray. These got cheaper quite fast. Others didn't start at such a high price.

not sure thats the right terminology.

You're the expert at this kind of stuff so you would know. But it's still good right?

It's just that "pure profit" typically means no or an inconsequential amount of overhead.  For example, if someone gave you a Norwegian Forest Cat for free and you turned around and sold it for $30, that would be pure profit.

Nothing is free and nothing is pure profit.  Everything has an associated cost, even when you steal something it takes time.

Why do you get personal? The CELL was the heart of the system, yes. I don't know why you think and talk in extremes.
