Michael Pachter is always wrong, therefore Smash Bros will flop.
I don't know where the belief comes from that Smash could do better than MK. It's completely unfounded if you look at any sales data.

I don't think he's exactly saying that Smash will outperform Kart, but rather that we'll see even bigger WiiU growth since Smash is coming during the holiday, plus the fact that the library will then consist of more games (including Kart).

He says Smash will have an even greater impact which I would translate as selling more hardware and by extend selling more software than MK.
I hope your interpretation is correct though since I usually agree with him.

He's saying it will sell more FW for a few reasons.
1. More hardware out at that time
2. Many people who wanted Kart already bought the U(Not all though)
3. Holiday Season
