Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why all the Gamestop hate?

I don't hate hate gamestop, in fact I love it, about 90% of the games I purchase are from there.

So seriously, why the hate? Is it because it's the cool thing to do these days? You know, hate on stores dedicated to the hobby you love.

what i hate is that "new" is often times not new.   they always break the packaging on games which is something i like to do so they take that from me compared to any other store.   they tell me they are selling me a new game but frankly i don't always believe them because somethings the packaging looks pretty damn beat up for a new game.  i think they are lying to be honest.

...when i got rockband the game came with a code good for a free download of some songs.   when i got my "new" game home the code was already used and i never got my songs.  i even contacted EA and they said they couldn't do anything for me because someone redeemed the code already.  i've never been back to gamestop.

anyways,. i buy full digital now so i doesn't even matter but i moved to amazon for all my gaming needs for quite a while.

whiners be whiners, i find its easy to use them to your benefit. Ill trade two used games get a brand new full priced one and have plenty left over for a preorder. I pay less then any other retailer/online, i win.

You can get a brand new game at game stop for $3.40 and still have money left over?

Because they have sometimes exclusive content, and Gamestop is not here in The Netherlands.

I think its cause the employees that work there are all over the place... Like for example, the one I go to, there is this employee thats a giant xbox fan and everytime I go there, he tries to sell an xbox one or an xbox game and etc even though all I want is my wiiU/3ds/ps3 game and I told him many times that I dont want an xbox one. Compare that to say Walmart where they don't really care what you buy and they wont consistently tell u to get another system. Least thats from my experience anyway

I have liked GameStops and disliked GameStops and its always about the staff quality. I like a staff that is into the games and giving their opinions and sharing their experience, but I don't like the fanboys that don't listen and don't try to help me find the right games for me and instead just try to sell me games I have no interest in.

eh.. people are bickering over nothing really.. gamestop/ebgames are cool. the only gripe is the trade in pricing.. but that's expected from a retailer who needs to make money off a used game that may or may not sell afterwards.. same thing with buying new and used.. when buying used.. sometimes you get a deal.. sometimes you get a steal. hell, the day i picked up TLOU:R, i also picked up a pristine used copy of Heavenly Sword (looked like game was never even played + manuals and even the old psp ad all still crispy) for only $4. lastly, i've never paid more for a new game at gamestop than anywhere else, like bestbuy, target, or walmart. bickering over the fact that sales employess are trying to sell you things makes gamestop/ebgames bad? lol.. some people are never happy..

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..

It seems to me like half the Gamestops are fine, while the other half absolutely suck. I've had problems with 2 Gamestops in particular, and both with hardware returns. I went to one because my new 3DS XL's hinge seemed off, and they replaced it, but only after telling me that I was overreacting and that if I had a problem with that I'd have a problem with every game system. WTF? Such shitty customer service. The other time, I went to return a different 3DS at another store sue to dead pixels, and they refused to exchange, even after seeing the pixels, claiming that it was too small to notice and be considered a defect. Since when are dead pixels not defects Gamestop?

I found a Gamestop near my university tat is simply excellent, but I refuse to buy hardware from any Gamestop now. They won't refund you even for defective hardware, and only do identical exchanges, so if they are out of stock with the hardware, you are screwed.

I can go to Walmart, show the customer rep the defect, and they'll refund me, no questions asked. I can also get a price match at Walmart or Bestbuy, something Gamestop refuses to do as well. If they suffer, they deserve it because of their horrible policies.

That's probably because of the widely known rumor that the employees are able to borrow the games and play them if they return them in the same condition.

I once got a Fire Emblem Awakening copy from Gamestop that they claimed was brand new, but it was out of the plastic wrap and had the slide scratch marks on it, showing that it had been used significantly. I got them to give me one with the wrapping, but it's such bullshit how they thought they could get away with it.

I don't know we don't have one in my country but I seriously would hate it because all cool kids on forums do it.

Also Urbandictionary has a lot of opinions about the store
