Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why all the Gamestop hate?

We have EbGames in Australia and there are bad. They only promote Sony and they are crazy expensive! I usually go to Target or online!

I keep my games and i don't believe in buying games used. So I have a dislike of GameStop. Buy the game new so the people who made it gets the money._just my opinion.

I'm wondering why there are even people buying at gamestop. God gave us the internet and Amazon and thus he spoketh: "Get your damn games online! I'm not inventing all that crazy new technology shit so that you still use your legs to get your games!"

I like picking up a game after leaving work at 2:30 rather than sitting around waiting for the UPS truck to show up between 5:30-6:30pm.

I also have no issues with the workers at my local stores as they seem like nice people.

Someone asks if you're interested in a console you do not have, just say "No thank you". Seems like NiKKom is right and gamers do hate social interaction outside of the house. That and judging by the way many gamers on the forums act, I wonder if it isn't really the store clerks who are the issue. Maybe they are tired of the whiney customers.

Ask anyone who has worked retail.

Customers are the problem.

Gamestop in germany charges up to 60 € (that's about 80 $!) for used games! That's just terrible and the main reason I don't like them. I've only been two times to a shop in Frankfurt, but the prices are just insane! And on the other hand, when I tried to sell an almost brand new game, they wanted to give me, I'm not kidding you, 7,50 €. Just so that they can place it on the shelve for 60 €. That really pissed me off and I'm never going there again.

Gamestop is also the only place I have ever seen where you had to pay 25 € for a 20 € PSN card.

We have a small (very small) games dealer around here with much better prices.

I see it quite often on forums that people dislike Gamestop. Even today I saw a member here post that they would rather give their money and buy a digital game instead of a physical copy because they hate Gamestop.

I don't see where this all comes from. Walmart has a new game, $59.97. Target, Sears, Bestbuy, K-Mart, Costco, etc... have a new game, $59.99.

Gamestop has a new game, $59.99.

Gamestop was the one retailer who offered a trade-up program for TLoUR, while Sony and every other retailer just wanted your $50 or offered $10-$15 for a used copy of TLOU (PS3), Gamestop is giving you $25.

Bestbuy: $10

Amazon: $9.84

So seriously, why the hate? Is it because it's the cool thing to do these days? You know, hate on stores dedicated to the hobby you love.

Why the Gamestop hate? I'll answer that with an actual scenario that I experienced awhile back when I HAD to go there to buy Xenoblade.

Me "I'd like a copy of Xenoblade."

Gamestop guy "Ok, would you like to apply for..."

Me "No, I just want the game."

Gamestop guy "But, if you sign up you can save money on this purchase right no..."

Me "No thank you, I just want the game. I'm good."

Gamestop guy (extremely sarastic tone) "What, you don't like saving money?"

Yeah...f' Gamestop.

Because when I bought a 3DS, they told me they would give me $30 for my original DS towards the purchase of a 3DS. I said fine, go ahead and take it. Later that day, I realized I had made a mistake. I did not want to sell my DS. When I went back to the store, they had it already packaged and ready to sell for $90 freaking dollhairs. Holy shittitties. Anyway, at least they let me buy it back for $30. But you see my point. Their markups are insane.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Bad experiences for me.

I won't shop there after purchasing a supposedly new game. The guy there gave me an open box saying it was the only one they had but it was brand new... what brand new game comes opened?? They sold me a used game for full price. And another time when actually buying a used game, it didn't work and I had to argue with the guy to get my money back. Crap service that doesn't deserve my money.

I prefer just to order from Amazon. They usually have the best prices any way and free 2 day shipping with prime.

Gamestop don't sound so bad to me. But we don't have them here in the UK so I've never actually been to one. Maybe the staff in them are just horrible.

I've visited the UK a couple of times and I must say every time I walked into GAME, it feels like I walked into a gamestop even the pre order "deals" seemed to be the exact same.  Still I must say I ended up finding some fairly nice people.  Even had a small conversation with an employey about SGC.

I don't hate the GamesTop

Gamers act in trends. Once one person hates it, then 2 more will, 4, 8 and so on and so on. It's just the way forum users are in these industry.

For instance, take the word "butthurt" as an example. Somewhere deep into a lonely's man's basement he once got into an online arguement and called someone butthurt. Now that comment was seen online and spread like wildfire in the 2006 or earlier timeframe. Now we have it as a stand alone word in every online forum today along with various .gifs etc.

Gamers are trendy people you know. I can't tell you how many times I heard "It's over 9000!!" online in video game forums....

Uh......Yeah........ Why do people keep using that meme?! It's so damn old...... Yeah.........  >_>
