Considering that Sony has already reduced manufacturing costs on the PS4, the X1 has an unfavorable chance at taking the lead. Whatever price cut MS makes in the future, Sony can easily respond with theirs. Overall, this all boils down to whether the X1 can deliver on software. However, much of Sony's 1st parties haven't released or even revealed their upcoming games which makes the software battle very difficult for MS to win at.

All 3 pretty much have reduced hardware costs by now so don't think its just Sony. Microsoft has a better chance of a price cut since it does have a lower end GPU and ram.

If that was the case, then we wouldn't have seen the standalone Xbox One and the PS4 priced identically. And MS can't just cut the price now because it just unbundled the Kinect and a lot of consumers will be pissed. By the time MS will be able to cut the price in a reasonable fashion, Sony can easily do the same. Also, the X1's motherboard is trickier to make than the PS4's despite using cheaper parts because of the esRAM being integrated into the APU. The PS4's APU is just straightout CPU and GPU in one die.

Yeah it was not a price cut just kinect unbundled. A price cut hasent happened yet. I beg to differ about your statement. GPU and ram cost more on ps4 compared to the Xbox one that is just common sense since one is weaker than the other. Microsoft can easily sell it @ $350 and still make a cut or @ $300 and maybe loose a profit but I have no idea if that's the case. Anyways Sony can't afford losing money on a console at this time since they are losing money left and right. I highly doubt they will make a price cut if Microsoft does one this year.

Actually, I see they making a price cut if MS makes one...the ball has always been in MS's court. Sony is waiting for their next move. Sony doesnt have to do anything yet because they are still winning and MS is backed to a tight spot. So why show all your cards this early?

So far the production cost for the PS4 will drop and Sony will be making a bigger profit than before, only if MS doesnt drop price soon. Negative side to that, is that fans might seen this as another desperation stunt from MS so early into the circuit. Right now, they need to sell the facade that they are untouched by Sony and the Kinectless Xbox at $399 was the right and best decision they could have made.

Exactly why there isn't a price cut on the Xbox one right now. Microsoft doesn't see a reason why. Why not wait for the holidays when all these great games launch? That seems like a perfect timing to me.

Master Chief Collection

Halo 5

Gears

I don't think so.

MCC will help the XB1 sales but it will not give the boost I  think some people are expecting. It will definitely give them a good boost but not the kind that will even be comparable to what Halo 5 or Gears will give. Heck I think Gears will give a bigger boost than Halo 5 for osme reason. I still think the US is a toss up right now. But if the gap has not decreased but continues to increase by this time next year? Well I am not so sure MS can take it back because that would mena the PS4 would have to drop off like the Wii did while the XB1 continued to sell. And I can't see the PS4 just dropping off like that and the XB1 going on along. Still to early to tell at this point but MS definitely has an uphill battle ahead of them.

However, you don't just add up the costs of each individual parts. It also costs money to put the parts together and that's where the PS4 trumps the X1 on. Because PS4 uses a unified memory format, Sony doesn't have to worry about embedding any RAM with the CPU and GPU on the same die. However, the X1's APU is more complicated and thus, probably costs more to put the CPU, GPU, and esRAM together despite the parts being cheaper. In addition, the X1 uses DDR3 RAM and its costs are already pretty cheap. GDDR5 RAM is more expensive, but has a lot more room for price reductions.

NA is Sony land. They're well on their way to winning the last 3/4 gens there, and absolutely unrivaled in Europe.
