Well I know this post isn't completely about anime but I just felt like sharing in case it is interesting.

I just booked a flight to Japan for October 7th- Nov 14th. The specific area that I am obligated to go to is Hirosaki near Aomori. As preparation I am also obligated to watch the anime Flying Witch, as the scenery in that anime is from that area of Japan. Should be fun eh.

It wasn't all that long ago that I took Anatomy & Physiology, so I actually do remember some of this stuff.  The Helper T cell especially made me chuckle, as did the whole thing with Histamine overproduction--anyone with allergies probably felt sympathy pangs during that, as the worst part is the fact that your own body is making you suffer by overreacting.  Mast cell was really cute, though.

I've said it before but I can see Moyashimon being an inspiration.  That's about a college freshman who can see microbes, which are personified as cute little goobers.  It's actually a mature series that touches on different lifestyle choices, so the narrative is much different, but part of the charm is the way it talks about how the various microbes interact with their environment, both good and bad, like causing sickness or producing alcohol, and gives little lessons about them.  It makes you look at the world a little differently, since microbes are everywhere.

I can't find much video footage but this AMV shows some of what I mean.  A very underrated series (in the west) that would probably have seen more popularity in today's environment where people are watching more than just Bleach or Naruto.

It was plenty popular in Japan and even had a rather good live action series.  This scene is about fermentation and is absolutely gross.  Kiviak, it seems, is made when you stuff a bunch of dead birds into a dead seal and then bury it for a year or so.  I mean, who even thought to try that the first time?

That's really neat XD It's funny how they can dramatize anatomy so well. I liked that fat cell that had nothing to do with fat.

Moyashimon seems interesting. I like these clever ways to incorporation information into a fun or interesting story. It definitely seems like it would do better in today's anime culture that isn't just "whatever is on Toonami." I'll put it on my sticky note @_@

And I don't know about you but I stuff random animals into dead seals all the time.

Enjoy!! Post pictures when you get back (or when you're there if you have time). Hope the culture shock isn't too crazy. I've been learning Japanese through work for the last year or so and I'm hoping to get a chance to visit at some point, even if it's professionally at first.

Don't worry I have been there before and I still don't know any of the language really. Northern Japan is a whole different beast though as there will be very little english speakers. Will be fun to get lost in again.  Now professionally is definitely something I am interested in, as the purpose of my visit is to find a job there (while having fun of course). I think a one year job in Japan would be really fun, maybe a bit more.

Favorite anime this season for me so far is Overlord, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord, My Hero Academy, Black Clover, Attack on Titan, Harukana Receive, Angolmois Record of Mongol Invasion. Top 3 out of those are My hero Academy, Black Clover and How Not to Summon a Demon Lord. On other recent news, I hate watched Star Wars The Last Jedi. Best part of the whole movie was when that rock was cut by a lightsaber and it fell on some caretakers' cart. Their reaction was hilarious to me.

Harukana Receive  --  The twins are great, certainly, but I'll take the mom.

She looks familiar....

In a surprise to no one, another Shounen Jump title is getting an anime.  This one is a bit different, though.  We Never Learn (Boku-tachi wa Benkyō ga Dekinai) is about cute girls who are genius level in certain areas but terrible others and need the help of the studious main character in order to pass their bad subjects.  I read the manga for awhile, it's pretty good.  Glasses girl is the best.

I was planning to read this one, but was a bit put off after what little I read of the author's last manga. I heard good things about this one though...might give the anime a shot to see if it's my jam.

Lack of blondes in that picture makes it a pretty hard sell though. At least that sensei has one hell of a tuchus.

To be honest, I thought the glasses girl was blonde.  It seems to change shades often in the color artwork.  Though I've come to believe that many Japanese artists color light brown as what we think of as "blonde" and blonde is depicted as yellow.  One manga I was reading, the girl with non-colored hair ended up as brown and the girl with darker shaded hair was actually a blonde.

That being said, there is an absurd number of blondes this season, which leads me to ...

Hanebado! ep. 9  -  I really like this anime.  I can't get any kind of read on where it's going, which is awesome.  Connie, the tall blonde girl, is actually the most insecure one, even though she came across as the cruel villain from the start.  And the mom, is she really the worst human being in the world?  That end threw me for a loop.  Is what she did to Ayano some kind of plan?  And Ayano ... she's such a goober most of the time but then, bam, she's an amoral psychopath when badminton enters the picture.  Is the main character actually the antagonist?  She's scary and you want people to beat her ... but then, would she break if that happened?  Would she go full Joker?

I mean, this is the SAME GIRL

Of course, what she said to Connie is sad but I can't possibly blame her.

Hmm @_@ It does look lighter in this picture. I may have to consult the Council.

Though in seriousness, I guess there's really only two hair colors in manga until the author finally gets around to doing a color spread.

Tall too? @_@ Hm...she sounds fierce and kinda hot. Seems pretty interesting. Some really wild girls in this show.
