So I was watching some Dragon Ball Super these last weeks. I think there's probably an insane amount of backlash, I really enjoyed it. But I have a somewhat weird, and not popular opinion about the anime. For instance, I think that Dragon Ball is clearly superior to Dragon Ball Z, and that Z started to become enjoyable in the Buu Saga. Which I think is not a common thought, Buu is normally regarded as the worst Z saga. It's just that I feel that in the Buu Saga the show recover that sense of silly humour and magic which made me love the first show. Freeza/Cell saga were maybe too dark and grim, and humour was totally lost in the way. Super felt more similar to the first one than anything from Z (except for the Buu Saga), so I'm really happy about the result. Except from some animation issues, which were ironed out as the show advanced.

I wouldn't call myself the biggest fan of the series, but I can agree with this actually. The Buu arcs seem to get a lot of hate, and yet that's where I felt the most interested in it. The whole series required suspension of disbelief anyway, so dropping the sci-fi disguised fantasy helped make it feel more like the original series, which I also liked a lot more.

I think my favorite scene was when Goku was trying to use his Spirit Bomb but failing to get the level he needed, only for Mr. Satan to decide to join in and ask everyone in the world to help. It thought it was clever how everyone's least favorite character suddenly became the MVP.

Yeah, I'm also not the biggest fan, but it was my childhood so it has a very special place in my heart. Now, when I was younger I was fully fascinated with DBZ and thought that the original was boring. But when I rewatched it a few years ago, I thought that the original one was better. Because I enjoy more the adventure-comedic tone of the show, and DBZ was souless at times, because the focus were mostly fights, and they dragged out... a lot. Except for the Buu Saga, which felt like a mix between the darker tone of the beginning of Z and the original show. So when I took my nostalgia glasses off, I saw a better show in the original. And Super kind of reminds me of the original show at times. It's definitely more goofy, more comedic and though it doesn't reach the quality level of the first one, it feels like it has a quality jump. Also, arc resolutions were not as repetitive as DBZ. There were moments where I was genuninely surprised. And I saw more interesting fighting strategies too. I guess that some people might miss the epic tone of the Cell/Freeza saga, but I think it's fine as it is now.

And, yeah, I loved that arc resolution in the Buu saga. Some people were pissed because the Super Saiyan Goku and Gohan transformations were not definitive. But a whole world united to defeat a common enemy was earned, and beautiful. It was just not one OP person who defeated evil, it was several individuals, powerless, but united they won.

Although, there's not denying that DBZ will always be the more popular show. But I still feel that it wasn't, generally speaking, the best DB had to offer. It felt like it was a flashy/epic DB, but hearthless.

Time for a quick mandatory first impressions thing from fall season

Houseki no Kuni.

If you think genderless characters with a lean on female design and VAs in classy suits with swords is enough to win me over... you are right. CG show with some decent flow and fluidity and with a decent premise and cast already, this is one I'm really interested to follow.

Juuni Taisei. I like battle royale type shows, nothing else to say really. Hopefully is not shit like Mirai Nikki, that is all I ask.

Konohana Kitan. If anything I was interested in the show out of respect for the author of the manga refusing to add a male mc for the magazines she was trying to get her manga in, till it was eventually taken without modifications, is the usual cute, feel good show with a girls only cast, pretty decent animation and designs, def a keeper with some tender moments already.

Love Live Sunshine S2.

Nuff said.

Osomatsu-san S2. Still as hilarious and ramdom as the first season, which really I can't ask anything more than that.

Pingu in the City. AOTY NOOT NOOT.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. Pretty surprised with this one, the slow start sets up a good atmosphere and has a lot of subdued and small touches that makes the moments between our main characters stand out, the music is great and the art is also pretty good, while simple on the character faces, everything else pops out great.

I'm a simple man and this show def caters to my needs so far.

Two Car. I'll reserve judgement on this one, looks generic so far,  could be a decent time sink to shut my brain for a while, but there were certain things that worried me, tho that is also from some traumatic experiences with past shows, but in general I don't have much to say about this one.

Urahara. I need another episode to fully grasp it, but I'll say the cast is really fun so far and the art direction is good.

And I'm still preparing my heart before jumping into Yuuki Yuuna S2, is gonna be quite a ride even if we know how the first half will end.

And that is all for now.

Kekkai Sensen was everything I remembered it being. Unique Lovecraftian setting, amazing visuals, badass German monster man, and just a ton of absurdity. My impression of season 1 was soured a bit by the finale releasing so far apart from the rest of the anime, but overall I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more of this, even if the anime-original girl from season 1 I liked is gone now.

DOUBLE-X!!!!

Also good news, it's on Crunchyroll now. I can probably cancel my Funimation subscription at this rate. Seems like it's only useful for dubs and the occasional show that hasn't been transferred over yet, like Haganai.

Speaking of Haganai, apparently there's an anime airing this season adapted from an LN by the same author, called "All You Need is a Sister" or something in that vein. Did a little reading into it, since I was curious. Don't judge.

If you're not familiar with it, Haganai (I Don't Have Many Friends) was a pretty fun comedy harem from a few years ago. While I'd say the anime was enjoyable, the light novels go in a rather unique direction, one which seemed to be extremely unpoplular (at least...I've yet to see anyone that actually enjoyed it). I had a ton of issues with the spoilers I read...though I don't plan to rant here.

Anyways, from what I've read, the last few volumes of Haganai released rather intermittently compared to the initial volumes, and the general consensus seems to be that the author was dealing with a lot of issues with her publisher at the time. Apparently she even released a volume with no illustrations, and no author notes save for one blurb, "I am tired." The reason I found it curious was that, not only is this new series being released with an entirely new publisher, but the story seems to follow a light novel author. No idea if this series is an outlet to help explain some of her Haganai issues, but I can't deny being a bit curious in it.

If I have access to it, I plan to try it out. With zero knowledge of it, I would have assumed it's a new Eromanga-sensei (which I probably would have watched anyway tbf)...but who knows. First episode comes out this weekend, though I'll wait a few weeks to decide it I like it or not.

Then does that mean you like GTs Black Star Dragonball Saga?

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

FML. I still need to finish up the last season. Alot of the new anime looks interesting.

Is anyone hyped for Kino's Journey?

...Just me?

*cries in corner*

Well the first few minutes of Imouto Sae Ireba Ii were pretty cringe. I get what it was going for, but it was too much.

Ignoring that, I enjoyed the rest of the episode. MC and silver-hair girl are both pretty depraved, but I found it amusing. Already looking at the trap brother with wary eyes....seems like another Yukimura.

Also nice to see a fellow Kirino and Kobato fan. I like this MC. A man of culture, to be sure.

Is that the first arc? I guess that's probably what it was going for with the kid Goku thing, but all I remember was more aliens and space androids. Seemed like a shallow attempt if that was the idea.

Shokugeki No Soma Season 3 is coming .... brace yourself for the awesomeness that is Soma-kun :3 (Yeah I did kinda read the manga ahead of the anime cuz my patience ran out :P )

I've probably watched the OP like 20 times now.

And I did the same after season 2 and jumped into the manga...and so I've been hyped. The part with Erina's grandpa bowing to Souma gives me chills whenever I watch it.

I'm very happy to hear that there will be six new episodic Girl und Panzer theater films.   Such an awesome series.  Even the new PS4 game looks great for an anime tie-in.

Panzer vor!
