Currently I'm watching Monster Musume...I guess I finally caved after Twi's poll. It's really dumb honestly...but I don't really care because the characters are hilarious. I don't think there's any character I dislike so far...even though spidergirl really creeps me out. I'm probably being unfair though, since I absolutely hate spiders. *shivers*

Don't know how popular it is, but a few weeks ago I was browsing through Netflix looking for something interesting just to kill time really, be it a show or a movie, and decided to give  "The Seven Deadly Sins" a whirl as it was the only thing that really caught my eye and looked kind of interesting.

I'm now 3/4 of the way through Season 1, and I have to say this is the first anime I've really gotten into in a long, long time, going back to when the first run of DBZ was poulating Toonami weekday afternoons and the Sci Fi channel was running anime movies on Saturday nights.

I've tried getting into other popular series in recent years like One Piece and Attack On Titan but didn't really care for any of them.  Seven Deadly Sins for some reason takes me back to the late 90s / early 00s during the good ol' days of anime on TV.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Another anime that's good on netflix is Knights of Sidonia.

I watched the first episode of that awhile back, and while it was very cool looking with the animation being top notch quality, the story / characters really didn't grab me at all.  Might have to give it another shot one of these days.

Versus_Evil said:So I was making tea and thinking about Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex and how it compared to AA and it got me thinking of shows that where never as good as the original and then movies that have never been topped.

The one thing I love about my community in here is that there's no way in hell we could universally agree on a single movie that stands above all else. But we're still gonna discuss it.

Now, I think Studio Ghibli are aging masters. They create great movies but are always in my opinion never able to replicate the success of they're past movies. Movies like Hotaru no Haka (1988) Tonari no Totoro (1988) Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä (1984) Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (2001) are some of the greatest anime marvels of all time and rightfully so.

But the one movie I've watched, that I think to this day has never ever been topped is Mononoke Hime (1997) everything from the setting to the characters to the story worked so perfectly together that it not only wowed me as a child but even now at the age of 26 I still haven't seen a movie that's made me feel the same way, I've not seen a movie able to replicate that since.

So my question to all you is what's the one movie to this day that you've seen. that you truly believe has never been topped?

Princess Mononoke is pretty good. I liked it.

I didn't care for Spirited Away. Just wasn't my kind of film.

Never seen Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Some of the ones I really liked were Howl's Moving Castle, Akira, Ghost in the Shell.

My pick is Sword of The Stranger. It has the best sword fights in any anime in my opinion and it's pretty good overall.

WOW!!

Me too so far is the best movie i have ever seen the music is beautiful, the fights, the characters.

I agree with you right there but thats what i like about anime, people have different tastes and is always nice to have that to comment, discuss, etc.

Princess Mononoke is awesome and all Ghibli movies.

I suppose Ghibli movies are hardly the most original answer, but I'm gonna pick one anyway.

It's definitely aged now...but in terms of raw emotion, I've never watched an anime movie that struck me as hard as Graveyard of the Fireflies. I literally couldn't talk afterwards, I was in such pain. It probably doesn't help that sad shows really hit me harder that most people...but this was something else. The worst part was that you knew how the movie would end within the first five minutes, and it still murdered me.

Although I wouldn't put it on par with Ghibli, I feel like I should mention the most recent One Piece film as being a real standout. Most movie adaptations of long running anime I've seen have ranged from boring to utter crap, so to see one that was actually fun to watch and tied into the source material was pretty great. Stand out scene was when Zephyr was being butchered by Kizaru...and all his former Marine comrades stood back with tears in their eyes.

Not sure how feasible it is, but I'd love to see more long-running manga adaptations have the original mangaka help produce the films. The quality difference is realy night and day. It seems the next One Piece film will be doing this again, which is fantastic.

What's everybody going to be finishing off in they're backlog list this season? For me it's just Ghost In The Shell: AA and the 2015 Film, also Shomin Sample. That's really good considering I finished 15 backlog shows in Winter.

After that, I plan to watch Death Parade finally...and then Dagashi Kashi. I have Asterisk War listed for some reason...no idea when I'll get around to that. Also one of my mod-senpais told me to watch Gourmet Girl Graffiti.

I agree with you, i have watched it twice and both times make me cry if i have to choose on drama genre for me this will take it.

That's the only thing that bugged me about that anime. She supposed to be a very old vampire stuck in  a young girl's body unless she transforms.

I liked the anime though.

Yeah, I get that. Couldn't she have been stuck in a 16 year olds body or something though? :p

I'll never understand certain things about the japanese.
