Tate no Yuusha is definitely what I'm gonna stick to. I like the themes and it feels like a cool world. Starting from zero brings a nice and cozy feeling of playing a real RPG and the motivation of the MC is solid. I wish he could take off the edge a bit. The change from bumbling normal guy to ruthless genius is a bit jarring.

I also want to watch Boogiepop. I like the style and an anime with a Myth & Roid OP cannot be terrible. Sadly it's executed a bit clumsily and it feels as if it might become boring really fast, not something I would expect of Madhouse. I hope the second episode won't bore me to tears.

Winter begins!!

I finished Kiniro Mosaic earlier this week. Overall...really cute and cozy show with some really fun characters. While it was mostly your usual CGDGT shenanigans, the characters were stronger than mere stereotypes, and felt more lifelike the more it went on. The finale was a good example of that...Alice's reaction felt really relatable as she was going back to Japan.

Was strange seeing me as an MC, but it's always nice to see characters with good taste. Speaking of which, Karen Kujou is a god-tier character.

And with that, I can start this season. So far the standouts are Mob Psycho 100 and Promised Neverland as I expected. I read the manga for the latter, and holy Karen did it still floor me. The design of the monsters was so chilling, and seeing Connie dead in the trunk of that car gives me goosebumps all over. Seems this will be a treat for sure.

I also started Bandori and 3D Kanojo season 2, which had a pretty nice first episode. Glad that the cat boy finally looks less cringey. Maybe it's just because I haven't seen season 1 in so long, but the animation looks better to me too. We'll see if that's just first episode bait though.

Oh, I guess I watched Girly Air Force too. Basically Kancolle/Azur Lane but with air planes now. The plot was so generic that it felt like one of those parody anime I see in self-aware comedies sometimes. Unfortunately for me, there's a hot blonde in the OP/ED, so I guess I'll stick around to see how important she is. If she doesn't do anything I'll probably drop it...or just forget to keep watching.

I'll add a few more shows to my list depending on what l like this weekend. We'll see!

"Wheel me out to the curb for garbage day"

Since my last update, I gave Kaguya-sama: Love is War, My Roommate is a Cat, and Rising of the Shield Hero a try.

Kaguya-sama is hilarious. A lot of dialogue, but it's amusing to see the two characters plot how to force the other to confess. Seems pretty episodic, so hopefully it doesn't get too stale, but right now I find the premise amusing and the music/animation are top-notch. Hope that maid gets a lot of focus.

Cat was surprisingly heartwarming. Was expecting just funny cat shenanigans and so I was surprised to see it get heavy. Even made me cry twice. I'd say that's not an easy feat but I don't think anyone would believe me at this point. Mao seemed to enjoy it too.

Was curious why Shield Hero generated controversy already, since it started off like Isekai #XXXX. I got it after that twist in the second half though...I can see why Western sites that buy into the "Believe all women" thing would take issue with this episode. Seems stupid to me but whatever. Personally I thought the messed up situation was a good backdrop for the MC and made him that much more relatable. I'm looking forward to that eventual grudge match...hopefully it stays interesting!

With that, I'm at 12 shows this season, including my four carry-overs from 2018, and only one potential drop right now. Pretty stacked compared to usual.

Watching about 5 shows this season.

Rising Shield Hero, Which I just got done watching the first episode and I really enjoyed this first episode, looking forward to see where the story is heading.

The Quintessenital Quintuplets, I enjoyed this first episode, I have heard a lot of good things about this series from /r/manga so I hope it lives up to the hype.

Kaguya-Sama Love Is War, I have read about 50 or so chapters of the Manga and was really looking forward to this adaption and it did not disappoint it is just funny as it was in the Manga.

The Promise Neverland, As someone who is caught up with the Manga for this series I am incredibly happy with this adaption so far and excited to see Anime only's react to all of the twists and turns this show has.

The 5th show is well Jojo, which newest episode just introduce what might be the most fucked up stand in Jojo so far.

And I've dropped Boogiepop after the second ep because it bored me to death. it has potential but it's not really handled very well. Overall I picked up 7 animes and it seems like fun.

Date A Live is just my must watch trash show this season. I can't live without Kurumi anymore.

Endro is a nice and inoffensive Fantasy parody. Not as over the top as KonoSuba but also not boring. It reminds me heavily of Zettai Bouei Leviathan which I also thoroughly enjoyed.

Gotoubun no Hanayome is a wholesome harem comedy with an interesting premise and capable execution. Just lovely.

Kaguya-Sama had just high enough of a pace that kept me interested. I'm not that fond of the narrator and the premise is very thin, so I hope it can keep up the pace and keep things interesting.

Mob Psycho is Mob Psycho.

Tateno Yuusha has kept me longing for the second episode for too long. I can't yet put my finger on it but something about it completely drew me in. If they can keep up the quality and prepare some surprises this has the best chances for my AOTS.

Watashi ni Tenchsi wa Maiorita has the best parts of cute girls doing cute things and does away with the stupid pervy male character. Pervy girl is best girl. Very enjoyable and funny.

Second ep of Tate no Yuusha and it's still really good. It doesn't do anything special or surprising but what it does it does very well. I also really love the character designs. Can't wait for all the characters in the OP to be introduced.

Kemono Friends 2 episode 1  --  That was pretty good.  Unfortunately, at least for now, it's absolutely impossible for this sequel to escape comparisons with the original, which is where "pretty good" doesn't feel like enough.

The core of the problem is that this came across as a standard anime production.  On its own, that's fine--99% of anime falls into that mold.  The original Kemono Friends wasn't standard anime, however.  It was felt different and specialKemono Friends 2 might be good but that first episode never felt different or special.

For one, the characters in the original were constantly in motion with very pronounced body movements that gave them a lot of personality.  It was a unique animation style, I understand that, but it worked perfectly.  More importantly, the dialogue in the sequel just screams "standard anime" dialogue.  The way the characters in the original spoke naturally was very quirky and extremely charming.  It made you like them and it let the voice actresses really interject a ton of personality into the parts they were playing.  I can't believe the executives behind this don't understand that.

However, the charm of the different character types is still there.  I loved Duck and Pangolin.  That's enough for me to keep watching, and I hope I stop thinking about the original every episode, but I can't help but miss that lost magic.

I didn't know it was controversial until I read a couple of "OMG MISOGYNY!!" reviews and "IT TRIVIALIZES SEXAUL ASSAULT" comments.  Holy freaking cats, people can be so idiotic.  Murder and evil can be all over the place, but having a female character lie about sexual assault seems to be infinitely worse.  And, somehow, they hated the main character for what happened?  Talk about an agenda.

Finished Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files: Episode 0, it was an ok taste of what's too come. Picked up Dororo and continuing a previous season show I put on hold with Bannana Fish.

"Wheel me out to the curb for garbage day"

In the past week I actually managed to get a bit of shit done from my backlog. I tried to finish Hanebado but then I just dropped it because it's just really really stupid. Instead I picked back up Re:Creators, an anime I had to drop in the past because I just had no time. But I really really want to check it out again.
