Forums - Gaming Discussion - Next gen predictions

Here I am citing some obvious next gen predictions that has a higher chance of becoming true.

1. PS5 / Next Xbox might implement 1440p as new standard. While "many" games might stuck to 1080p number. Those who are expecting 4K resolution from console please check reality.

2. Games will sacrifice 60fps for graphics; again.

3. If nintendo makes a home console; not handheld and home console hybrid then we will see tablet controller getting omitted.

What do you guys think?

Having a thread about supposedly "obvious" things with the first prediction having the word "might" in it doesn't sound like a good idea :P

I thought this was simple logic, not grammar :P

Considering how (not) powerful this gen is 2019 seems like the next logical switch.

Considering how the console market keeps shrinking consoles should remain as underpowered as now.

Weird social features, smartphone and e-sports integrations should be the new gimmicks to differentiate consoles.

Big ass publishers will be kings more than ever. Subscriptions and DRM everywhere.

Some Indies will achieve "am I too hyped?" status.

Most indies will prefer other platforms (yes, smartphone gaming)

PC will be the reelected winner

I think it's definitely within the realm of possibility that next gen will go for 4k. I don't know if it will, but I think there's a chance. 1440p is a definite though.

We don't even know when they will release to have a base to anything, how can I check reality?
I say 4K at 60fps for the top games, 1080p+ to standart, yeah, come at me!

Back in 2011 I told my friends next gen games might be 720p after 2015/2016. At first all games might have 1080p. They laughed at me, saying all next gen games will be 1080p. Look at it now.

As far reality, 4k is "double" of 1080p and do you know how much processing power does it require? A lot. It becomes even bigger issue when you need to make it happen in a $399 system. It wont be happening. Plus it will take time to 4k TV / monitors become our purchase range cheap. I dont see almost everyone getting a 4k TV / Monitor by 2020.

4k tv's are already getting pretty cheap, and soon 10k tv's will be pretty reasonable.  However, making a game with that kind of detail is gonna get pretty expensive.

Thats the problem. People have no problem to buy expensive TV or yearly apple product. But when a game console costs more than $500 or spending $60 in a brand new game internet explodes.

if sony doesnt go under by the time that ps5 comes out, then i can see most of their games hitting 1080p 60fps for ps5. lol.
my predictions for nintendo is that they will probably be the publisher of 3/5 best rated games once the ninth gen is all said and done.
i dont really have any predictions for microsoft and their fourth xbox. it probably wont be very good, if they even decide to make another.
