Welcome to the official Amiibo thread!
On E3 this year Nintendo announced their own smart figures, the so called "Amiibo's".
They work with the NFC technology of the gamepad, so every Wii U owner can just buy one and use it!

Compatible games:
The Amiibo's will be available at the end of the year and will work first with Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Other games that will be compatible with Amiibo's are:
- Mario Kart 8
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Mario Party 10
- Yoshi's Woolly World
Keep in mind that more games will be compatible with the Amiibo's in the future.
This is how Amiibos will work in Smash Bros:
In Smash Bros. the Amiibo's will be used as AI characters. If you play against friends then you can put an Amiibo on the NFC field and the character will appear in the game to help you in battle. You can also use the Amiibo as an enemy to fight against you! You can level your Amiibo and customise it, it will all be saved on the figure itself, so you can take it to your friend or where ever you want!

Nintendo announced that Amiibo's will be 13$ each. You can pre order them now already!

This also confirms the first 12 amiibo characters!
However, Pit and Zelda aren't in the first wave, but already confirmed to exist.
So there will be atleast a second Amiibo wave for Smash Bros!
