Forums - Sony Discussion - Vita deserves so much better!

Seriously, now that I've had one for about a month I can't say enough good things about it. It's actually a little shocking to me that it has been selling so poorly. And this is coming from a guy that for the past decade has been an unaplogetic MS/Nintendo fanboy. I've spent years trolling VGC on multiple accounts, having been banned at least 10 times or so for Sony bashing signatures/threads, and now I find myself having dropped close to $700 on my Vita, memory card, and games for it over the past 30 days.

I am man enough to admit that I have been foolish in my ways over the past decade, and I am sad that I've been missing out on so many great games/franchises! The Vita has helped me see this.

It's a beautiful piece of hardware. I love everything about the design, from the screen size and resolution, to the dual analog sticks, and the way it feels in my hands. Of course, it's the games that have really swayed me. I originally bought it with the intention of playing only a couple JRPG's to kill time at work as I've been stuck on fire watch for over a month while the company I work for is having our spinkler system replaced, and had grown bored of all my 3DS games. I quickly found myself sampling games from every genre, and every era (the back catelog of games avilable on Vita is just awesome). Now I can't stop spending money! It's almost an addiction. I feel like I need to get caught up on all the awesomeness I've missed out on by avoiding Sony products in general for so long.

I'm not going to sit here and say that Vita has better games than 3DS because it's purely subjective, and the 3DS has some really amazing games that I've enjoyed immensely, but i can say that the past 30 days has  been one of the most enjoyable stretches of gaming I've ever had. I've been playing FF X HD, LBP: Vita, Killzone: Mercenary, Disgaea 3, and Sly Cooper:Thieves in Time (This game is fucking incredible. Why does this franchise get so little love? All I ever heard about from Sony fans in the past as far as platformers go was Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank. Sly Cooper never even seems to get mentioned and it's awesome!). I've fallen in love with every one of these games. This little handheld is going to keep me occupied and happy for a long, long time! I also grabbed a ton of PS1 classics (mostly JRPGs).

Having said all that, why the hell is the Vita selling so pathetically? Is it simply a price problem? Memory card price more specifically? Piss poor marketing? Whatever the reason is, it actually saddens me a bit to know that if it keeps selling this poorly Sony might just give up on it sooner than later. I hope that it isn't the case, because the Vita deserves better. Anyone who doesn't own one or anyone who is like I was and has been neglecting the Playstation brand would be doing themselves a huge favour by getting a Vita, in my opinion.

That is all!

Oh, except this. Being a fanboy of any kind is actually pretty ridiculous. I missed out on so much! This goes for everyone. If all you play is Sony games, you're missing out, too. Go expand your gaming horizons!

Its selling bad cause
a) Memory card prices are super high compared to microsd card prices
b) A lot of the games on its library can be found else where with an arguably better experience vs most of the games on the 3ds can only be played on 3ds period
c) 3ds gets a lot more love from Nintendo than Vita does from Sony (just look at e3 for example)
d) 3ds has games with more of a broad appeal than the vita does (Like Pokemon is played by kids, teens and adults)

And etc... I think the vita deserves its poor sales not cause its a bad system but the way that Sony is treating it... I mean, their latest thing (apart from freedom wars) was a new revision of the vita with a bundled 2 year old game that everyone and their dog as played...

Glad you're enjoying it. I have also been surprised at how much I've enjoyed mine since I got one. A year ago I never would have thought put 3DS and Vita as equals, but now it feels exactly that way. I have thought about it and right now I would say the Vita is the best system of 2014 for me. I just hope it can stay alive to keep bringing me great games.

Too bad Sony just doesn't give a damn about the poor system, eh? :-/

I've said it before and, I'll say it again as a user of all 3 manufacturers.  90% of the people who claim Sony doesn't have the best exclusives are people who have not played said exclusives or don't own Sony products. Play Muramasa Rebirth, Ys, Gravity Rush and Tearaway, dude. They are all great.  Their exclusives are pretty much what set them apart on 3, 4, and Vita.

Who are the other 10%?

Its a great system, no doubt. I just dont see a reason to get it yet. I will when its very cheap though. There are a few games I want to play on it.

That's the reason why I got a 3DS as well. I have bought as many Vita games as I can possibly by and there is not much else in store for it in the future. So basically I already got the 3DS games I like that will last me until the end of the year when SSB and Pokemon release. With the way Sony is treating Vita with no real hope of future success, I needed some backup in case I get a drought. It really pisses me off because Vita was a handheld with a lot of potential and Sony still doesn't accept the mistakes they made. Poor Vita indeed. I hope it can get better, but I don't expect much better. Sony basically killed Vita off in their minds this year.

Great post, Lulz. As someone who has had a vita since launch and has gamed on it for thousands of hours so far, I can easily say that it's easily the best gaming purchase I've ever made.

Why is it doing so bad? It's been discussed to death and it seems that there's no agreement between fans, non fans, and people who don't know much about it. In my opinion, it's:

1. Everything the psp did that was new and awesome for casuals, smartphones and tablets can do too
2. The psp didn't end up on a high note. People who had one didn't wanna buy a psv and get burnt again
->3. The 3ds price cut destroyed the psv. I lost count of how many times I saw people posting online "I'll wait for the inevitable price cut before buying a psv". The price cut didn't come when it was expected and people lost ineterest in it.
4. Doom started to hurt potential owners' interests and unlike Ninty, Sony did nothing to quickly fix the problem with a price cut, better bundles etc
5. Online negativity affected almost everyone. Reviewers hated psv games for being psv games (lower scores than they deserved), the psv became the butt of a joke and no one wanted to give it a try. Then people started the whole "psv has no games" which affects people more than they think. People who actually gave the handheld a chance and didn't bother with online (mostly ignorant) comments ended up loving the system.

It's been over a year that it's reached a point of no return. No matter what game is released on it, people won't give it a chance. It's sort of the same with the wiiu, which will sell a few million thanks to strong support from Ninty but it won't do well no matter what because people have already made a decision in their minds to not give it a chance.
