Yes, another FFVII remake thread. Yay!
Anyway, for a while now I've been thinking that SE could remake the PlayStation FFs very easily. I don't get why they don't do it. Well, I guess it's because many fans want a full-blown PS4 game in 3D with voice acting. But I don't think they need to go that route at all.
The original games consisted of pre-rendered backgrounds, with some limited 3D environments during battles and a few 3D character models. It would be 100% doable to simply take the original games and change the backgrounds to HD art, design a few models from the ground up and there you go, FFVII remake. For example, something like this:
The only difficult part would be the CGI cutscenes, but I guess FFX quality is good enough here, or they could use in-engine scenes or animation or whatever.
We're talking about a project that an indie team could develop on a kickstarter budget. 2D art in HD with some 3D models can look gorgeous, so why not? The problem with FFVII is that it's too damn ugly, that's it. The other two don't look so bad, but they would benefit from a makeover.
Why do you think? Would you be OK with this kind of remake, or do you need a current gen 3D game with voice acting?
