Forums - Microsoft Discussion - EA Announces Subscription Service On Xbox One: EA Access

This sounds like a ploy to co opt used game sales to me. They just want that piece of the pie from Gamestop too.

How so? It's not like EA has stopped making physical games. They are just giving a discount for those who purchase the subscription, along with access to some older games. It's a great deal, no matter how you look at it. If Gamestop wants to compete, they can start by price matching like almost every other retailer.

Funny to me to see so many people mentioning that this seems like an attempt by EA to get more money and that because of that it must be a bad thing. Of course it is an attempt to get more money! Companies are created exactly for that reason: to make money.

If EA is seeing a way to make money off older games by offering them in a subscription service then that is what they are going to do. After all, those older games realistically are going to be sold in greater numbers in the retail market from a used game bin. This means EA sees none of that money and Gamestop and the like sees all of it. This is just a way for them to get the money instead of Gamestop. I would rather the publisher and developer get my "used game money", this way they can continue to make new games.

I really hate EA with any passion, but something like EA Access is absolutely awesome for gamers :)

i dont understand why people are complaining about the games that are currently available 1) its a beta 2) the only games missing are titanfall, pv2, nba, and ufc so just under half of eas games are on there.

This will instantly lower the value of the physical games.  Why would you buy A used EA physical copy game now?  You can get ALL of them for $30.  This deal is only there to give them that "second hand" revenue at the expense of their own games value and anyone else's ability to get a piece of that pie.

If your context is what is that you want the value of software to remain high then this is not a deal.  It's a cheap death to content rich games for the future.  It's why you can't hardly find such games on mobile. They call the games Free to Play but it came with a huge price for all future software on the platform.

Really? Then why haven't PS+ or XBL GwG lowered the prices of physical games?

This is a boon for digital gamers like me and many others. Physical gamers are unaffected either way, you can still buy your game down at Gamestop for $60 if you so wish.

They know MS gamers will pay. As good as it sounds it reeks of exploitation and I don't like what is to come. MS opened the flood gates for Activision and EA.

Oh yeah I mean totally "MS gamers" would pay. No way would "Sony gamers" ever enjoy a subscription or monthly fee based service that provides you a catalog of games and also provides discounts. You know what, I bet movie and television consumers would hate something like that as well. In fact I doubt cable companies could ever make money selling content packages for a monthly fee to people. And I highly doubt Amazon ever tries to even bother creating something like this for e-book readers.

But thank goodness "MS gamers" are there for EA to "exploit".

Sounds good to me. Will have to see how it works out when finally available though. This service will not reamin exclusive for long if succesful.

So do you think Nintendo will get EA Access too? Because Sony already said that they don't want EA Access on PlayStation because they believe it's not a good service for PlayStation!!!

Cause GwG games are really old.  Outside of PS3 most of PS+ is indies which are cheap.  Give those services 5-7 or so years. It took years to train mobile owners to no longer outright pay for the games.  If publishers want to train console customers as well it might take more years as the roof was much higher in the first place.

Let's completely ignore the impact that Digital has had on every entertainment industry and think that wont apply to games.  Especially not with these types of services.

As a consumer looking for instant gratification this is good for you. For me this is not.  Do not tell me that digital hasn't already affected the types of games that even get to retail and effect my ability to purchase them because it already has.  Look at Vita.
