Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone else's Wii U keep disconnecting from the router for no reason?

Tagged games:

Every few days I have to keep re-connecting it by resetting my router.

Nothing changes; the router does  not move, nor is anything moved to block it. My laptop still gets 5/5 bars. But the Wii U will simply disconnect inexplicably.

What is your router model?

N600 Belkin.

But my laptop and my brother's PC in another room have no trouble staying connected to it.

Have to reset the router and not the Wii U? The latter happens to me once in a while (but unlike yours, i know it's my landlord's router, as it does the same thing to my laptop once in a while). Usually just powering down the Wii U and turning it back on fixes it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Is the router acting as a DHCP server for your PC, Wii U and other devices? Sounds like a possible IP address conflict.

Might also want to upgrade the routers firmware if it's old.

Try changing Wi-Fi channels.

Try changing your security settings to WPA-2 Personal (with AES encryption) if they are not already there.

Thanks.

Yeah, my Wii U, laptop, my brother's laptop, and my brother's PC are all connected to the one router, if that's what you mean.

Noob question; how do I change wi-fi channels?

And now it works again, after disconnecting the Wii U from the power supply then reconnecting it.
Wtf man...

In the URL address bar in your browswer, type http://192.168.1.1

That is usually the default gateway for most home routers.  This should promt you with a username and password for access to the router.
If the router is still at default and no username and password have been set, leave the fields blank and click log in.

From there you can explore the various settings.  Channel and SSID tab on the left will be where you change the Wi-Fi channel.

I have to tell the WiiU to find my router and re-enter the password every once and a while. Never have to do it with any other devices in my home though...

It is near the end of the end....

My one disconnects every few days but I don't have to reset the router.
