Which do you like more?

Wii 132 34.74%

PS2 248 65.26%

Total:380

I don't think any console will ever peak like the Wii did and sell more than 25m in a year.

The problem is Nintendo's product quality. Since Wiis almost never broke, no need to purchase a replacement.

As I heard, that was rather different with the PS2, hence the extended lifecycle. Limited BC from PS3 made that effect probably even more pronounced.

The Wii had the better games for me (it's my opinion, I don't state it had the better games for everyone): MHTri, Zelda:TP and Zelda:SS, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Pandoras Towers.
PS2 has also good games, but don't match the Wii: Okami (but that's also on Wii), Wizardry:Tales of the forsaken land, Beyond Good and Evil.

10 years greatest game event!

The Wii would've done way more say it had 3rd party up to par with PS360. PS2 wouldn't of beat Wii if it was in the same situation. By 2011 Nintendo was running dry on ideas since thy had a lot every other year, where as Sony could release a few each year and kept ides coming until the very end and even after. Also there were still 3rd party games 6 years after the console was overtaken by the next gen consoles

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

RIP Iwata 12/6/1959-7/11/2015

Thanks for all the great memories!

They both got a lot of shovelware, but I think the Wii has more games I like

Software sales PS2: 1660M, software sales Wii: 920M (so far)

If the PS2 hardware advantage is only because of the many replacements, the software sales should be much closer.

ps2 got good sales even with ps3.
the initial ps3 failure helped ps2 a lot.

but the wii u failure didnt help the wii.

but ps2 didnt have xenoblade, i vote wii.

Sidetracking, yeah right...

The PS2 is extremely relevant to this, do you seriously believe that the PS1 would have dropped 50% in FY00 had the PS2 not been available? Also your "people went the Wii from to PS360" point as a reason for the Wiis drop is ridiculously weak, the Wii was always aimed at a completely different audience from the PS360.

I'm just glad you agree that PS1 and Wii have very similar sales curves, with Wii having about 10 million more units sold in year 2-3 and PS1 having about that same number sold extra from year 8 onward.  But about 94% of sales are virtually identical.  You show me stats that Wii owners and PS360 owners are mutually exclusive, and I will agree with you.

Further, as of August 2008 19% of American PS2 owners had purchased a Wii, 18% had purchased a 360 and 10% had a PS3 according to NDP.  In case you're bad at math, that means that around 10 million of the 15 million Wii owners (66%) at that time had come from a PS2 background.  You can continue to live in a dream world where you think most gamers are devoutees to a particular brand, that PS360 and Wii buyers are seperate entities and that the main people who picked up a Wii were soccer moms and grandparents, but the truth is the mass market of gaming is regular people who have little brand attachment and want the latest thing.  Those people loved the Wii when it was flashy and new, just like they loved PS2 when everyone had one.  Those same people picked up PS360's when the price came down, COD became the rage and HDTV became affordable.  Most of those people also haven't picked up an 8th gen system yet, with nothing really grabbing the public's attention fully.

It's a tough call to say which one I liked more. They were both great. PS2 had a deeper and more diverse software library and it truly felt state of the art at the time in terms of graphics. Wii had some exceptional key titles and truly felt next-gen and awe-inspiring the first time you swung a racket in Wii Sports. Two of my favorites are FFX and Xenoblade, and they are a virtual tie for my love. PS2 has nothing to compare to Mario Galaxy, but great titles like Castlevania and GTA are not to be seen on Wii. In the end I would say I had a slightly better experience with Wii due to local multiplayer fun in Wii Sports, Smash, MarioKart and NSMBWii, as well as the nostalgia fest that was the Virtual Console. PS2 gave me fond single-player memories with many adventure and RPG games, but it can't top the fresh/classic experience that was the Wii. Really a close call though.

This isn't fair comparison. You should compare PS2 vs DS and Wii vs PS1.
