Assuming vgchartz current numbers are correct (meaning total and the rate at which the console sells), I'll say either the week before or the week when Fifa 15 releases.

I will go with the second week of September. The week ending September 13th, AKA as Destiny week. The Last of Us Remastered kicks things off, followed by PS Now this Thursday, and then we roll into a steady stream of games from August through the rest of the year.

August

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition
Infamous Last Light
Madden 16
Metro: Redux

That is a very good month, and there are a slew of other indies to fill out the month, with a possible release of Minecraft. Then Destiny week is also the inaugural release of next gen NHL. So 10M as of 9/13/2014 and 17M by 12/31/2014 to finish off the year.

Probably by october, with the bundles of TLOU and most especially Destiny (white bundle) the console would probably hit that number between late september and early october. If it hits 10 million by then, would it be the first console to reach that milestone in a year? How many units did wii make by this same period if I may ask
