Forums - Movies & TV - Guardians of the Galaxy

I wanted to go see this opening weekend, but my wife's work schedule did not co-operate with that, so we went to see it this past Thursday in IMAX 3D. Totally worth it. It was easily the most fun I've had at the theater this year, or for a long time for that matter. Box office wise, even if it got bumped to #2 in it's second weekend, the drop was no steeper than expected. It's just that TMNT did a heck of a lot better than expected considering it's awful reviews. Besides, Guardians first weekend was more than double what was predicted in the first place taking in to account the average persons unfamiliarity with the characters. Everyone in the movie was great, but I have to give an extra nod to Dave Bautista. Who would have thought that he would have the most successful career of any wrestler to go into acting?

Updated the running domestic total

Guardians doing well compared to other Marvel features with only Avengers and Iron Man look to do better than it domestically right now.

Guessing no cares about graphs as generates little to no discussion.

Guardians managed to hold well and looks to finish close to the Iron Man films and Winter Soldier.

Thanks for the graphs, Augen. People care...but arguments usually lead to more posts. I'll take the graphs, though.

Saw it a 4th time yesterday, but in 2D. Definitely made a difference.

As for the graph, I hope it becomes as big of a series as Iron Man. It's so fantastic, I even pre-ordered a Star Lord costume for Halloween.

I just saw the movie this evening, it was pretty great. I enjoyed it a lot and the 3D effects didn't burn out my eyes like some other movies do. I also understand mZuzek's avatar now .

It's a good thing you understand it because I'm actually thinking about keeping it for good

Do it!

Guardians has great legs it will easily make over $260 million dollars domestically and the only movie that is guaranteed to make more money domestically this year is the next Hunger Games movie. Interstellar might have a outside chance of making more also.

You mean a negative difference? I'm yet to see it in 2D and I get the feeling it's a lot worse.

EDIT: Just saying, I actually like the graphs, Augen, in fact I'd like to see an updated one with the first 20 days for reference. The only problem with that graph is that it's a little bit too... vertical.

It's not that it looks bad in 2D, but I felt the 3D worked really well for this movie, and I hope more action movies take notes in making the 3D feel organic.

I will update the graph to mark Guardians of the Galaxy's impressive return to #1 at domestic box office this week.

Impressive hold as Guardians is now taking on Iron Man 1.
