I do believe PC gaming is huge there, which may limit the appeal of consoles, similar to the Korean gaming situation perhaps. But in a country the size of China, with a pretty rapidly expanding middle class, I can't imagine the console market being smaller then Japan's. 20 million people (~1.5% of the population) buying consoles almost seems like a sure bet. And a 20 million console market is nothing to sneeze at. But by the same token a 20 million console market isn't likely to be a game changer in the global scheme of things. |
I think 20 million is a little high. Its a market that will need to gradually grow. Mayb it will be a big market and maybe it wont, nobody can really predict that. 20 million however would be very large and def a game changr if you think a single console can pull that off.
America on average last Genration was 40 Million with Xbox 360 doing 47 Million, Wii with 45 Million and PS3 29 Million.
Europe on average was 30 Million with Wii doing 34 Million, PS3 with 33 Million, and X360 with 25 Million
Japan was 8 Million. Wii with 13 Million, PS3 with 10, and X360 with 2
So if you expect China to do 20m on on console that would be huge. Maybe they will but i would expect it to gradually grow and not be that large immediatly. Hopefully im wrong though and it is that large.
