Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft should give up on "The One"

The only true name is Xbox 181 if you go by math. And you should always go by math.

I've been calling it Xbone since day one. It doesn't hurt my feelings. If anyone who shouldn't be calling it Xbone, it would be Sony fanboys. It's not their race. I have and many others already embraced the name. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me, bitch.

It's almost like the OP is just trying to start controversy for hits. Let this thread die, don't feed it.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Didn't they already?

The actual Box is not the "All-In-One" Box which MS intentionally showed:

- DRM and used games concept completely different
- no region lock
- 24h online check no more necessary
- Kinect essential for the XBO experience is no more mandatory
- TV, Sports and entertainment focus no more important

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with those changes but for MS it's not the "All-In-One" Box they invented and wanted to be. This are major changes in their "master plan" so they gave up already a lot on the XBO.

I'm being serious here, what was controversial about that post?

Xbone has stuck.

Microsoft should capitalize on it.

I could care less about the hits on my wordpress site.

It's a serious idea. They wanted The One, which sounds stupid and never caught on, and now I've heard it referred to as the Xbone more than anything else in real life. Instead of focusing on being the "all in one" entertainment machine, they should realize the computer already does that and better, and go for another angle.

Embracing an insulting title and making it your own often ends better than trying to fight it.

What the hell are you talking about. The Xbox One is like a PC, then what the hell do you think the PS4 is like? I guess Sony should just abandon the PS4 also then since the PC does everything the PS4 can but better smh.

I just have a couple of questions.

Doesn't the majority of what the Xbox provides, gaming wise, strike a lot of cultures as offensive though? I mean the primary games of the system are shooters, usually graphic and bloody. The logo for their second biggest first party franchise is a skull in a gear.

Isn't marketing done regionally?

I wasn't aware it could be offensive, and you're the professional, so thank you for your insight.

Sure but those are single games.. there are lot of countries were those kinda games don't release.. for example germany and Wolfenstein games with the Nazi stuffs.. MS could decide to market it more kid friendly in for example China.. not advertising the gory games as much..
But what you want is on a larger level.. making the word XBONE as the primary word for the device.. that's the image of the brand and device itself. Branding it with skulls and bones is a big no no for a global brand.. Muslims may not wear clothing with skulls on it, in China skeltons are sacred, in Europe it reminds the people of their mortality.. (a lot of painting from the past had skulls on it.. it was so the Nobles would stay "down to earth"....
"Momento Mori" = "remember that you will die.."

So it's overal it's not a positive thing to be building your brand with that.. You wouldn't want to be remembered of your mortality when playing a videogame.. also a lot of marketing is actually aimed at the parents who buy these devices for their kids.. No parent would buy it for christmas when they can buy a nice, friendly white WiiU..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Well, Xbone has already been accepted by many fans without being offended. M$ even owns Xbone.com. What more do you want?

That's true, but the PS4 wasn't trying to label itself as "The One."

"The One" sounds like some fan made nickname, I've never seen MS market the Xbox as "The One".

Well in all fairness this is ''the One'' for Microsoft. If it fails they will leave the industry.
