Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA's next target, Ubisoft?

Financially Ubisoft is the studio that has been doing the best this generation after Activision.
EA owns part of the voting but Ubisoft has been aware of that for a long time and put some protection around. A nice chunk of Ubisoft stock is in the hands of the Guilmaut brothers too ( the CEO is one of them).

The company is currently valued at 2.7B Euros too, which is little over 4 Billion dollars.

To make a successfull offer EA would have to offer a substantial premium over that.....

It would be tough for EA to convince Ubisoft shareholders that they can do a better job managing the company than the current Ubisoft management does.

Ubisoft stock price has gone up over 240% over the last 2 years.

By comparison EA stock price has been flat over the same period, and the same for Take Two.

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

If they took the Wii seriously they would have ported Assassin's Creed to it. And considering the game is slated for both DS and Cell Phone, I don't want to hear a goddam single notion about graphics being a problem.

Seems to me someone is mad they have a Wii and can't play Assassin's creed.

Lol the DS/Cellphone version isn't that same as the one running on PS3/Xbox360..

For the full year 2007-2008 Ubisoft should have sales of around 1 Billion dollars with an operative income of around 13% . Their third quarter ( holyday period) was up 44% compared to the previous year.

By comparison Capcom third quarter was up 4.8% compared to previous year with revenue down 8.2%.
Sega is going to loose a bunch of money for the year too ( 250 million $ or so) compared to a gain the previous year.

Looks to me like Ubisoft is making the good choices, not Sega or Capcom :P

Right now it's easy, you have Activision-Blizzard and Ubisoft kicking butt this generation, both financially and in terms of market share. All the others studios have yet to show significant sales and profit improvement by switching out to the new gen of consoles...

And Ubisoft is just not for sales because of the fact that a huge part of its voting stock is in private investor's hands...

i could care less what company is profitable. EA and ubisoft are a perfect match. Haven't liked a game from either since Rayman for dreamcast. But if they touch Capcom, I will personally kill EA's CEO...

I think Ubisoft has actually taken the Wii quite seriously. Maybe they've done a poor job of developing high quality games, but either way, they are capitalizing on it. Don't forget, they were one of the few 3rd parties to completely back the Wii, gung-ho, from the start.

Either way, if they've capatalized off the Wii (they have), I don't see how its relevant how "seriously" they took it.

Being vulnerable or not, this makes me hate EA more and more every day. Independance is > deep pockets, Imo.

EA=Satan

Dude, why hate on Satan?  He didn't deserve that.

To second Disolitude, its a wonder that EA and Ubisoft have become the second and third largest developers considering how much stuff they release that isn't even worth a second glance.

They're both two sweat-shop style developers who just pump out generic tripe one title after another. Of course they have the heavy hitters like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed but for the most part they just know how to appeal to the lowest common denominator in gaming with bland and flavorless Sports games or generic racing titles.

If only the shovelware on the Wii had as much luck as the shovelware EA and Ubisoft feed the market.

eehh, EA does not make Call of Duty. Only Activision.

My bad. Okay, what does EA make again aside from Madden? Do they own Activision?

i want a new Prince of Persia, and it better be good, don't fuck it up Ubi

I guess Prince of Persia or Prince of Persia clones is all Ubi is really good for.
