Forums - Gaming Discussion - Apple frustrated with "mentality" in mobile market

That's funny, since they're the ones who created that whole ecosystem and the mentality that goes with it.

Exactly what I was thinking. Gaming has been devalued to the point where it is seen as worthless to many mobile owners I know.   The race to the bottom has left companies with nowhere to go.  Not sure how they will alter this mindset now.

I doubt they -or anyone for that matter- even can.

Sure they can. They're encountering many of the same problems that Atari did during its heyday, albeit with some additional problems tacked on. We saw what the solution was back then. In fact, it'd be easier for Apple to enforce the solution, since it has a closed system.

Whether it cares enough to is another matter entirely, of course.

An iPad does more than a video game ever will, coffee keeps a lot of people going in the morning and - excuse us for wanting to fucking FEED ourselves, Apple.

It's a video game, it's entertainment.  If it isn't worth 4 bucks then it just isn't.  (Tbh iPad's aren't worth $600 but I digress.)

Don't really agree with this. Sure the games are usually a bit of a rip off but the examples are valid. Is coffee really worth that much? Can't people make their own for a fraction of that price? Same with lunch, do people need to buy lunch at a restaurant or something? Couldn't they just take a home made sandwich with them that would cost a fraction of the price?

They're consumables.  You can choose to to buy it yourself for less but have to do the work yourself.  Or, have the work taken out and pay the convience fee.  It's a matter of spending your time or your money.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Maybe when someone puts some effort into making a game for the ios devices, instead of developers porting year old console/PC/handheld games or people chasing that Angry Birds money, people will gladly pay for them...

Nowadays they would get sued if they did anything more to control price and what games come out at what price.

On what grounds, exactly?

The same can be said of the Steam mentality on games. Why spend 40 to 60 on a new game, when i know itll go on sale for 4-10 bucks on one of the big sales, or probably even a rando sale. That mentality is rampant in the masterrace.

Herd mentaility is insane on mobile platforms.. If you are in the top ten you will be set for life but if you are not you will not make any money at all. In order to have great effect on the herds you will need to be f2p to get your friends on there or they will find something else because there are 100's of clones to your app. Also be sure to appeal to the lowest common denominator. This means simple gameplay with a cartoonish artstyle, cute but at the same time cool npc's and early game instant rewards to get people hooked. Then later you slowly make people wait but in small increments to fool the brain into not noticing the time increase nearly as much. Offer special diamonds to decrease time and you have a clear winner

It's the same on Steam. When quality control is poor, people become hesitant to spend anything.
