Forums - Gaming Discussion - Apple frustrated with "mentality" in mobile market

I think being free is why it is popular tbh cause imo... the people that buy an ipad are usually parents getting it for their kids or teens so granted it costs 600 but it was the parents that bought it for their teens but the teens and kids dont really have much money which is why free is soooo popular

An iphone is NOT a necessity.

For some people it is. Think of a business man who constantly needs to check his email on the go, make skype calls, use whatever app lets him do his work, etc.

So then how did people like that exist before iphones?

The process was slower and way less efficient.

Before the business guy had to go to his home or the office to check the the email, if an emergency comes out, he would have to wait longer periods of times to respond. Before this was done with a simple call, but what if the problem at hand needs a file? you have to send it via email.

Another example, let's say you have a big important interview with a client, but because of traffic you can't reach the office in time, so you use Skype on your phone and have the interview.

Another, you connect to a server via remote access and again you are in a stuck in traffic, you can connct with your phone to that remote server and start working.

"Apple is frustrated, along with everybody else, about the mentality that's gone rampant in mobile app markets, where people don't want to pay anything," Watson said. "They want to pay as little as possible. They think that four dollars is an exorbitant amount to pay for a game, which is very illogical considering most people's lifestyles. They'll spend $600 on an iPad, and $4 on a coffee, drop $20 on lunch, but when it comes to spending four or five dollars on a game, it's this life-altering decision. I'm frustrated with that too."

"Apple clearly knows this, and I think they're hoping developers are going to be using that on iPad Air, because it can push it now," Jorgensen added. "So they're telling us to go higher-end with our game. We're still making those decisions."

I suspect it'll take quite some time to bring the majority around on this one. And to think it was only recently when saying that the mobile market's rush to the bottom was harmful was something you'd be attacked for saying!

The reason is clear, though they, and every other digital vendor won't publicly admit it. People don't see the same value in virtual goods as they do physical. It's hardwired into our DNA and I don't know how long it'll take, if ever, for that to change.
