Forums - Gaming Discussion - Apple frustrated with "mentality" in mobile market

"Apple is frustrated, along with everybody else, about the mentality that's gone rampant in mobile app markets, where people don't want to pay anything," Watson said. "They want to pay as little as possible. They think that four dollars is an exorbitant amount to pay for a game, which is very illogical considering most people's lifestyles. They'll spend $600 on an iPad, and $4 on a coffee, drop $20 on lunch, but when it comes to spending four or five dollars on a game, it's this life-altering decision. I'm frustrated with that too."

"Apple clearly knows this, and I think they're hoping developers are going to be using that on iPad Air, because it can push it now," Jorgensen added. "So they're telling us to go higher-end with our game. We're still making those decisions."

I suspect it'll take quite some time to bring the majority around on this one. And to think it was only recently when saying that the mobile market's rush to the bottom was harmful was something you'd be attacked for saying!

Then I do not think Apple understands the issue...

Yeah, if someone spent 600$ on an iPad, it should be nothing to spend 4$ on a game... The problem, in my oppinion, is the very poor quality of the majority of games on the AppStore, people know that the majority of games will be crap. And then there are those games you spend 4$ but then need to spend a tone of $ to actually enjoy it...

Customers are just becoming more informed and well aware of this which lead them to be very cautious.

I'm frustrated with it as well. The need to get everything for free is resulting in a deluge of low quality products.

I always stood by the idea, that app pricing should have been in the 5-20$ range, so a minimal quality standard could be kept. Freemium, tough it can be good in rare occasions, is usually crapware, and this is for games, apps or any other software you get on your phone/pc/console/tablet etc.

Thats because many of the people buying these games are not gamers. They see the games as a time waster while waiting for the bus. 5 bucks for 10 minutes is alot to them...

Surprised? They are the reason prices are what they are for gods sake :).

Personally I wouldn't ever pay for a game that expensive on the mobile market. A lot of it, and I mean a huge amount is just crap.

I gain more benefits from buying a humble bundle or saving money for steam sales.

An iPad does more than a video game ever will, coffee keeps a lot of people going in the morning and - excuse us for wanting to fucking FEED ourselves, Apple.

It's a video game, it's entertainment.  If it isn't worth 4 bucks then it just isn't.  (Tbh iPad's aren't worth $600 but I digress.)

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

As somebody who works at Gameloft I can tell you, that the quality barrier of the iOS app store is 0. We had "games" being released, that I am certain that nobody ever looked at it, and they got released in a state that was simply broken. And it gets worse on Android. You can get an app released for Android devices, even if it was tested on a single device, and the firm logo appeared. Terrible.

I know that there is plenty of quality software on app stores, but they are lost and all that they become is the dumping ground of any software ever concieved, with titles driven purely by viral marketing and undeserved hype.
