Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How the Wii U could make a comeback

I hate to say it but until Nintendo gets out of the dark ages and stops with all the insane and stupid restrictions of stuff, babying everything and so much more, they are going to have a hard time bouncing back.

Glad to see someone who agrees with me!

If Nintendo did this once Amiibo is out, It will sell like hotcakes. So far Amiibo with Smash Bros. is still iffy for me. Hoping how this will turn out :3

Pokemon Amiibos would sell a ton. Nintendo's philosophy this gen is that if it will sell a lot, don't do it.

LOL, If it sells a lot, dont do it.

I so agree. I dont see why. Nintendo bank is shrinking and it need to gain back those money that has been lost this pass for years. And it all from the Wii U sales. Hope they do a 100% turn a round.

I just can't believe some of their decisions this gen. No hard drive, crappy (but at least free) online, hatred of third parties, the lack of power but still a high price, the Gamepad which isn't good for local multiplayer (even though Nintendo emphasizes it) and is never taken advantage of, no achievements (in 2014), Zelda's new art style, Mario 3D World instead of full fledged 3D HD Mario.... I mean it's like Nintendo WANTS the Wii U to fail.

And before I get accused of being a Nintendo hater: the Wii was my favorite system last generation.

I agree about Animal Crossing. That game is begging for a WiiU version and if Nintendo handled it right it could be pretty massive - particularly in Japan.

I'm really interested to see how Mario Maker fares. The Gamepad is the perfect input device for such a game.

Mario Maker to me feels like it would have more potential if it were included in New Super Mario Bros. Think of it like New Super Mario LittleBigPlanet.

Well, Mario Kart 8 kind of showed us a little comeback, Im pretty sure a slight more when Bayonetta 2 comes out also. But what guarantee will turn things around is Super Smash Bros. With Amiibo coming a long with it. When every game this holiday comes out, most likely the new install base will be more then 60k+ probably 80k per weeks :D
My guess!

Mario Kart I don't think did enough... maybe a little spike. But I think it's pretty clear gamers have rejected the Wii U (not saying it's a bad console or anything).

Amiibo I don't think will become a hit because there's no real use for them. I think they should've did Pokemon Amiibos instead.

MK literally doubled the baseline...

Even with that the sales are nothing special, but it is a good start

I just think that the wii u is an unappealing console overall for the casuals. I mean you have a tablet controller that does not have unique apps and not even nintendo themselves have a gamepad centric game to show off what it can do. The gamepad is just a controller witha screen on it. Wiphen you compare it to let say an ipad it pales in comparison to what it can do.

I totally agree. When I first saw the GamePad I didn't even believe it was Nintendo's new controller. I was shocked. I can even show previous posts where I said the Wii U wouldn't even  be a big hit cause of it. I knew right away it made no sense.

However, I think for the games I mentioned, it could be a huge hit with girls. Like style games, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, etc. etc. Think of it like a console DS (where 1/3rds of players are female).

Also the Wii U would be perfect for a Pokemon RPG and a Retro Studios FPS!

U.U, a metroid or any FPS game using the touchscreen would be just amazing, it was so easy to aim in the metroid prime hunters.

Amiibos i don't see the potential in, but it could explode, id give it 20 80
As for your analysis, I say your reasoning is a bit faulty, because the correlations of the demographics of the Wii's base is more of an effect than a cause.
The reason so many female gamers signed up with it was because the Wii was popular and had widespread appeal. And depending on that "Mainstream" audience is hazardous if not fatal.
As for where handheld and mobile are going with the "Mainstream", I doubt they are coming back.

The best and most realistic way for the Wii U to make a comeback, is to bolster its exclusive library, so much so that people are actually missing out on many types of games by not having a Nintendo system.
Leave the 3DS alone, and get an exclusive KH, MH, Pokemon, FPS, etc to appeal to a wider audience, the 2015 lineup is a good start, but they need to use that Money to build up more studios. If they can outproduce EA in quantity, since they already do so in quality, then PC, PS4, and XB1 owners would be hardpressed not to get a Wii U in addition.

I disagree and I'll explain why. The 3DS' comeback was helped by appealing more to the female userbase. They came back. Not as much as with the DS and Wii, but they did.

The Wii appealed to women because of the type of games it had - namely, Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Wii U will never reach the heights with female gamers the Wii did, but Nintendo can try and tap into that userbase.

Nintendo games don't have the popularity they used to. Which is why I think while Nintendo does need to bolster its exclusive library, it has to expand its market again as well. Heck exclusives don't even sell consoles anymore really.
