Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Will MS remove the HDMI in and cable TV support?

Will they remove these features?

They will, soon. 15 13.64%

They will, eventually (new SKU?) 42 38.18%

They won't. 53 48.18%

Total:110

No because there is no point in doing so. They would not be able to get the cost down with those tiny change.

i think they will in the future bundle the xbox with the kinnect, that would be neat:3

Yeah.... No. The direction X1 is taking is different from their original goal.  MS wanted to kill off the second hand "used" market which was a major part of their strategy (ChaCHING$$$) with the DRM Policies and while the original netcode may be written into the OS, it will never get used; How could it? They simply don't have that kind of leverage.

And to say the optional removal of Kinect (which originally was to always be plugged in) isn't a major flip flop is absurd.  This was designed to be as important to the X1 as the Gamepad is to the WiiU.

Like seriously.... How can you not think many of the decisions coming from the MS side have been made out of sheer panic? This was their shot to dominate and they screwed up, BAD.

And in no universe I want to exist in is that a BAD thing.

First no real 180 has been done it's just a big word console war mongers like to use to flatter their ego, only the approach has been change. A lot of the original plan is still there and a lot is yet to come and heavily expected by the community... You just have to check on the user voice and half of what is asked was in the original plan...
beside the 24h check, the online DRM and package Kinect everything has been kept implemented differently or slightly postponed.. I'd hardly call that a 180 in reality very little has been changed... Beside pleasing retailers which are the true gamers enemies anyway

now I don't see why they would take out an HDMI in port, it doesn't cost shit and it doesn't influence the OS either... It would cost them more to redesign the console and change the OS... So I highly doubt it... The OS for sure since 5million++ with it have it already..

but then again who knows... The useless whiners might wanna go for a 540° of uselessness LOL

So taking Kinect away was not big?

Ohhhhhhhh I seriouuusly doubt they will. Unlike everything else they changed (Indie policies, Kinect inclusion, paywall severity, etc, etc,) I don't see a lot of people complaining about the existence of a port. Sure, there was concern that the X1 was too FOCUSED on TV, but I don't think the existence of the port, or its removal, will have much of an effect on that impression. Removing it, however, will just end up making them look like this was yet another thing they miscalculated, and the last thing they probably want right now is to seem even less uncertain about their vision than they were before.

Bottom line, they did everything they did to boost sales. Removing the port will not boost sales, and will likely hurt their image. So they won't remove the port.

See this is the kind of compramise that kinda saddens me.

MS jumped through hoops and said Kinect was pivital to what that wanted to do with the X1. We were told the X1 would NEVER be released without a Kinect and they did! This was no small part of the intial strategy that they beat into the consumers head.

Then the DRM, this again was no small thing... They wanted to tell the consumer what they could do with the items they purchased! Clearly they underestimated the consumer... I mean had they done a tiny bit of market research they could have dodged a bullet and insteat BAM walked right into it.  They have no idea how the used game market works and how it fuels many new game purchases. They just assumed that everyone that buys used will just buy new and I can't tell you how big of a blunder that was! I mean monumentaly stupid everyone involved deserves to be unemployed bad.

Always online! Remember when people made a big stink about this? You know the people that have issues with stable connections or limited access (some military personal for example) and MS fired back saying hey we have a console for you and it's the 360? Remember that? Again how dumb was that. This was suposed to be huge also and again manditory.. but alas back track.

Not to mention the slew of "features" that were to be built around this clusterfugde approach? So you say "very little" has changed... really? The XBox One that was to originally released is vastlty different that what we have now.

It's one of the reasons I will NEVER own a XB1, see when a company assumes your stupid and then treats you like a mindless sheep then shoes NO remorse then I will just take my entertainment dollar and go on to the next guy. See by buying one you are saying you are ok with what MS tried to do, you may not feel that is right but in the end they see it as a win because they got your money... they beat you.

Anyone here who got the X1 and is using the whole TV integration thing? How is your experience?

Impossible. The console was built around those functions and heavily marketed to use with the Kinect. Yes, the Kinect removal was one thing, but the TV and the HDMI IN are huge features built for the console. This will further damage the Xbox One's initial all-in-one box perception. While removing features makes sense for a slimmed down SKU, this would actually do harm for the console.

I don't mean to say this as a joke or flaming, but since the Xbox One has a peculiar appearance, the slimmed down version should resemble a cable box. I say this because it would look pretty nice along a HDTV setup, and the console itself sorta eliminates the need for a cable box.

Can't see it happen. Maybe at the end of the generation they could sell a somewhat gimped cheap console like Nintendo did with the Wii Mini.
