Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo has made 71 Brand new Franchises Since 2001

Glory of Heracles was originated in the Famicon, it's not that new.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I bolded a few more games that have seen very strong success and may see sequels or spiritual sequels. I count 28 games here, far more than 6.

  • Pikmin
  • Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
  • Animal Crossing
  • Battalion Wars
  • Chibi-Robo
  • Art Style
  • Wii series
  • Endless Ocean
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • The Last Story
  • Wonderful 101
  • Splatoon
  • Golden Sun
  • Kuririn
  • Starfy
  • Rhythm Tengoku
  • Nintendogs
  • Big Brain Academy
  • Brain Age
  • Clubhouse Games
  • Elite Beat Agents
  • Hotel Dusk: Room 215
  • Trace Memory
  • Soma Bringer
  • Fossil Fighters
  • Codename S.T.E.A.M
  • Steel Diver
  • Tomodachi Life
  • Harmo Knight
  • Pushmo
  • Dillon’s Rolling Western
These games are either newer IPs, popular franchises or got a great score.

And yet the vast majority will never see a sequel. Not really keeping a franchise afloat if the first game is the only game.

Bolded all games that have 2 or more games in the franchise.

Hotel Dusk also had a sequel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Window:_The_Secret_of_Cape_West

So, let's make the real list now, considering only the REAL IPs.
Which means "Cooking guide! Can't decide what to eat?" is not included.
IPs in bold are the ones that spawned several games and revolve around actual characters (which means the Wii Series is not in bold).

Pikmin
Eternal Darkness
Animal Crossing
Wii Series
Endless Ocean
Pandora's Tower
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Story
The Wonderful 101
Splatoon
Golden Sun
Nintendogs
Brain Age
Art Academy
Codename: S.T.E.A.M.
Steel Diver
Tomodachi Life
Pushmo
Dillon's Rolling Western

Pushmo and Dillon's Rolling Western in italic because even though they have their own characters and at least 2 games each, they consist only of eShop titles, so can we really consider them?

I think so. Pushmo is on 3DS and Wii U, and they are in talks for a 3rd Dillon game. Plus, maybe even a retail 2nd Rusty's Real Deal game.

nice

Wow thats sad

And how many of them have had any sort of sequel in the last few years? A lot of them had a mediocre sequel that ended the franchise. A lot of those franchises haven't seen a new game in 6+ years.

Its obvious that you dont know much about these franchises and are just grasping at straws at this point. So lets just end it here.

I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out yet, but Tomodachi is on there twice.  One as "Friend Collection" and once as "Tomodachi Life".

I presume "Friend Collection" is referring to the name-translated DS version which didn't release over here.

So 70, anyway.
