The issue isn't them simply making new IP, it's a matter of them making something of note than can stand next to Zelda, Mario, DK, Smash etc. Not Nintendogs or the Wii series.

The same goes for Sony. When people say "we want new PS4 IP", they aren't asking for more SingStar, EyePets or Buzz. They want major titles in the vein of UC, LBP, TLOU, inFamous etc.

That's something Nintendo have been pretty poor about the last decade (though their pre-existing IP have been excellent in that time).

Also, it would be more accurate to say Nintendo were involved in the making of 71 new IP. Many games on that list were developed by 3rd parties with Nintendo helping.

Ask Nintendo. Although Tomodachi Life might give you a clue...

I think when most people complain about no new Nintendo IPs I think they mean HUGE franchises, something you'd see on Smash Bros. For example, Pikmin and Animal Crossing were the last huge franchises on a Nintendo console. Splatoon looks to have potential but I will wait to see more.

Although for their handhelds they have been doing fine with new IPs (not with the 3DS as much though).

Although good, not many of them are 1st party AAA games. Maybe 5 of them.
